a 909 kick is more musical and sounds phatter!!!!!!! better low end and changes slightly with every hit to sound more ''real''.

but a real 909 is needed to get that more organic sound |

i wouldn't say its needed, but you can't beat having the real machine.
the drumazon vsti (commercial drum synth) gets 90% the way there of a 909 in my opinion, the closest you will get without having 1 and it gets that hit change i'm on about where it hits different parts of the noise to get that change every hit.
plus there is always quality 909 samples which can be used, i normally use these as layers or you could try giving them a harsh pitchbend aswell to get that pock/thwip sound i guess.
drumazon is the bomb though, does some nice psy kicks straight out the box aswell. |

my fetish is to synthesize a sine wave and make a kick from it on the same synth i use bass for.

imo this is with the only, if not the only, way to get them !really! together. i loved doin that with blue... its possible to get a heavy kick with some processing and deep ass bass from that machine. many ppl i know dont like blue, anyways this was for long time my choice. today i sure know few other synths iŽd give a try, but guess what....
im also stuck into bazzism and like to layer the stuff with sine. this gives me the punch in the bottom bazzism lacks imao
anyways, back to topic iŽd say audacity is a free solution... dunno if theres a pc version.
according to the trigger thingy... it does not affect the synth in any kinda way.
cheers, have fun: stephan

imo the psy kick should be a one layer clean effective sound.

Good question. How to layer?
What about FM synthesis for kicks? .... and for bass too.

It is a common practice to layer stuff while producing, you know, a boomy bass and a more mid bass with stereo for example, or a clap and a snare...
It has also been suggested to layer kickdrums to achieve a different more solid result... but whenever i try to do this sine waves get boosted or cancelled in an unpleasant way leaving an irregular tail which i find not good.
I've tried eq, or changing kick's fq but the result is always unpredictable phasing, perhaps im missing something here...
ATM i enjoy my single layer kickdrums but always like to experiment. |

if you layer kick drums, phase 'issues' are an inevitability.
only, they are not issues, as there is no down side to having these 'issues' - only upside from having a much, much, much more flexible sound!
Aciduss, stick up a layered kick, and I'll try to let you know where it is going wrong ... although this is not the easiest game in the world, it must be said.
What I don't like anymore about single layer kick-drums?
No thud at the beginning when sweeping from high frequencies! Clearly shit!
