It's basic science dude. You don't live in a little bubble exempt from that....as much as you may think you do

Na I was only measuring the boom from different angles and places for a/b when I boosted, I got good results so I'm happy.

all the eq are not the same, for example , some have constant Q and some not depending of how much you boost and cut, also just 2 different interfaces can make you eq your sound not the same... even if the plug sound indentical the end result may sound different just cause of the interface.

No worries

I agree with what you say. Though I do think that it is too easy to have too many EQ plugins. I posted the link just so people can understand that maybe there is too much marketing hype with alot of these products.

Well, what's to joke about? I was wondering when it would finally turn up here (never saw the article before) but this question has been discussed to death at other forums.

Sure the GUI can make a difference, some offer different slopes/Q than others but the key question was whether it is correct to talk about certain eq's as better sounding than others (everything else equal, only basic functionality considered) and if so, why? Or is it placebo from marketing/hype?

Suffice to say that as a beginner, trying out 25 different eq's in order to get the 'best sounding one' is a waste of time. Much like worrying which sequencer 'sounds best'...

Maybe the EQs tested don't vary, but saying that all different vintage EQ units are therefore equivalent is both stupid and wrong.

Lets take all the URS para EQs ... they clearly sound different, and work best in different situations. Maybe that EQ model is the same in each case or maybe not - but there are subtle disto algos going on in the background - which are unique to those plugins. The article dismisses them - for no good reason, as these are a big part of the sound.

Besides which, not EQs are equal. What is a parametric EQ? Well, with a little bit of DSP knowledge it isn't too difficult. cutting, a parametic EQ is a vari-q notch filter with a wet/dry control. What is a notch filter? the result of subtracting the output from a band pass filter from the original audio. What is a band pass filter? A derivative of a low pass filter.

So, really, this article is suggesting that all Low Pass filters are the same. This is clearly incorrect.
