I am in the process of building my DAW from
the ground up, after a few years being "out of the picture".
My music is a cross between "Classical Rock" and "Trancesque" technology - so I will be
doing live guitars, drums and vocals right up
and by a host of VSTi's and pumping D&Bs.
My PC is used for work, which is in the field of CAD and GIS, so I actually get a tax break
on the system, which also has to be rock solid
and reliable. Also, the system will have 1GB
RAM and a dual screen display.
My question is:
In the quest for speed, I understand that
a dual processor (XEON) outperforms a
single P4 cpu, even though the latter has
a faster clocking. Does anyone have a solid
experience with this issue and reliable
MoBo's to support either configuration?
My tendancy is NOT to look for speed via
overclocking - just get it in there from the
ground up.
Also, I prefer Intel CPUs over AMD, again -
the old fashioned stability issue (yes, I
know some would swear by their mom that
Athalons are just as good if not better...).
ThanX

check the software you intead to use and see if it supports multi processors. ex: sonar just released support for dual cpu's with version 3.1.
i've *heard* there is not to much difference (price/performance ratio) of dual or single if the host program doesn't support it, but i don't have experience with it myself. |
