My projects have just started getting to the point where they are stuttering and melting my CPU. I've only ever used the freeze VST function in Cubase, the next obvious choice is exporting lanes to wav and reimporting. This opens up lots of great new editing possibilities too. Simple stuff when you think about it.
However, I've never done this before and I was wondering what quick methods people use for bouncing, if any? Is the only method to solo a lane and export it? |

Well if you have some tracks that wouldn't need any further processing you could bounce them together. Though the best way is to keep everything in a separate audio track in case you want to use offline processing later.

At least in FL i export the midi-file/synth, but I also add some space after the file to get all the reverb/delay sound. I export in the best quality file settings possible, and then reimport the file into the sampler.

Where do you find options for dithering, this is one thing in Cubase I've never found. I export my Wavs as joint stereo 24bit 48khz usually without any extra settings. |

Yes.
Now...
There is another feature in cubase called offline procesing, which is appliying audio effects to a certain audio clip/part instead leaving the vst always open in the track channel and consuming cpu resources.
Once u applied the effect, Cubase will render the audio part plus the effect as a new clip without wasting ur cpu...
pure audio work
For more info on this go to the getting started.pdf chapter 17, tutorial 9 on your cubase folder.
u can also use fx busses such as compression, delay, reverb and so on to give fresh air to your cpu
cheers!

That's not the only] way; you only need to solo and export if you want to bounce down eg. send effects as well as the basic sound. If you just want to bounce down the audio track or VSTi with inserts but without send FX you don't need to solo - simply select that track in the Export Audio dialog as the source for the bouncedown. You can also export the outputs of groups or even FX channels on their own in this way.
When I first started using audio sequencers I was very nervous about bouncing down and I'd spend five minutes checking all the settings before pressing "Export"... after a while though you do get used to it

Offline processing saves me big time!
I barely use effects and without it I could make a single lead sound.

I'm not at home, but I'm pretty sure its as simple as..
File > Export > Midi file
If you solo the lane it exports just the midi data from that lane. |

I'm not sure what you mean by part?
Just a part of the midi track? Use the left and right repeat boundaries? |

sometimes i like keeping a empy audio lane listening for master all the time,
and record all the steps when creating a sound, and this way you get unique impresions from the process of making a sound or you can freeze some twists that are simply to dificult to automate,
or too far from the finished sound you wanted to create.
very easily, leave the sound in solo, press the record button in the temp audio track, record and then i move the block to its definitive audio channel for some pluginfx tweaking.

Press "P" while selecting the part this will set the locators..Now when you bounce it will only bounce that part & not the whole track..
I assume this is what you wanted if not ignore it!

If we are in advertising mode ...
In Sonar you can edit a frozen track. Just freeze the synth or audio track and you can edit the resulting wave just like any other audio: Copy/Cut/Drag&Drop/Paste, apply effects, insert real-time effects on clips, turn it into an ACID loop, turn it into a V-Vocal loop (and mangle it even more), insert track or clip envelopes, load a selecion of audio into your favorite wave editor from a menu, edit it and save it back into Sonar etc.
If you want to unfreeze the track or Synth for any reason, just drag your edited audio down below the lowest track in your project and it will create a new track with your edited audio.
You can also select an audio track, a synth track or any number of clips and right click and bounce to a clip or bounce to a new track.
You can also use "quick unfreeze" and "quick freeze" if you just want to check something (like turning off an effect or changing a parameter in a synth). This is an instantaneous process as it just hides the frozen audio and reactives the track/synth.
All this makes working with audio and frozen tracks very quick.
