don't put anything on the master. just make good mix. if you think your mix is not good enough, so don't send it to mastering.           http://www.youtube.com/user/ChichkeMultiTech

Yep,as Chichke said, pay attention on mixing and leveling ,don't put anything on master channel and if your mix sucks, mastering won't save your ass

and don't work with limiter on the master. it's not right. it's just louder. you should put limiter on the master just after mixing           http://www.youtube.com/user/ChichkeMultiTech

Best would be to talk with your mastering engineer what to do..

leave a few db headroom..

maybe send group tracks for stem mastering and all that stuff...talk to your engi           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

First make the best mix possible without anything whatsoever on the master, get rid of all the nasty frequencies and make your kick and bass as clean as possible, when you feel the track is good enough to play in front of a crowd, send it to mastering, get the result back, a b it to your mix, if there is anything there you do not like, eq it out in the mix stage, rerender and then resend to your engineer and ask him to run it through the same setup...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

Taken from - http://www.fatmastering.com/preparing-your-mix-for-mastering/

Don’ts When Preparing A Mix For Mastering

Don’t add a brick wall limiter to the final mix. Loudness should be applied during the mastering stage.
Don’t apply compression, volume maximizer, or limiting to the main stereo bus or the master track. Only use the effects needed to enhance the recording such as compressor, reverb, delays, etc within the separate tracks.
Don’t mixdown at a level above -3 db at the least. Allow headroom for your engineer to work with.
Don’t assume your mastering engineer can fix what you should have fixed within the mix for mastering.
Don’t think that if you have your track mixed dead center (mono), the mastering engineer can widen the mix and pan the instruments to make it sound wider. Utilize your panning fields and be creative to make your mix for mastering sound open and full.
Don’t add fade ins or outs to the final mix. The mastering engineer will take care of that.
Don’t send your mix in compressed lossy formats such as MP3 or WMV.

Do’s When Preparing A Mix For Mastering

Do keep an open communication with your mastering engineer. He will tell you exactly what he needs from you.
Do make sure your recordings are free of noises such as pops, clicks, bumping the mic, and hiss. All wave files should have a nice clean start and end.
Do send your files in uncompressed formats such as WAV or AIF. The higher the quality (24 bit, 96khz for example) the better. Note that mixing down at 16 bit 44.1khz and converting to 24 bit 96khz before sending for mastering doesn’t convert it into a higher quality file. You should record, edit and mixdown always at the highest quality possible. The mastering engineer will bring the format down to CD quality (16 bit 44.1khz) at the very end.
Do include exact spelling and full names of titles, and other text content to be included.
Do Provide names of songs from commercial music you’d like your product to sound like. Be very specific in any other requests you may have.
Do understand that your mastering engineer can only work with what you have given him.
Do understand that mixing and mastering are not the same thing. They are two very different processes.
Do you know what ISRC’s are? iTunes usually requires them           Check out my site for Video tutorials and other tips & Tricks

get the best mix you can ! rule like dont use processing on the master i dont like much,it s about taste imo and way of mixing, some producers mix with a complex chain on their master , if you bypass it wont sound good, cause everyhting have been mixed with the stuff on the master.

it seems some very successfull mix engeineers don t even need level boost at mastering i can see some avantages, depending if you know the mastering engeinner or not it give less room for him to fuck the mix.
and also to get the best mix possible loud and not the best mix possible around - 18 rms (just a random number..) but all can work good imo it s just different way of mixing

A 24 Bit 44.1 Hz Track is Fine, or you can send a 32 bit file, but 44.1 hz is definitely enough as far as the sampling rate is concerned, for obvious reasons...

Leave at least 6 db headroom for the engineer !          Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

You can make/Put 1.000.000 effects (No problem at all - I put minimum 300 in a full track) but the master
have stay clean of those , If you limit your master then you limit the final result of mastering work .

Turn off your master processing and try and make the next mix of your track sound like it does now with it turned on           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
