wow!!
80 tracks?thats a lot of tracks!
i prefer to bounce to audio, when done with automations sequences notes etc and the pc hungs all time.
it works better for me this way cause i can open more vstis when i close the "bounced" ones and give a break to my cpu..

I've read about this but always thought it was a major exageration from people that just read the H2O blurb and repeated it without having really tested it. How bad is it in practise?
I recognised the blue thingy because I just installed the SX3 "demo" a couple of days ago to see where Cubase was at these days. (And because there is an issue in Sonar that CakeWalk originaly said they wouldn't fix in this version. They changed their mind after some complaints on the forum).
I must say there is some interesting stuff in SX3 but this extra CPU load because of the dongle worries me. I know that you can just run the blue thingie instead but how does this affect any customer support? And have you done actual tests on heavy projects with and without the dongle? What kind of difference are we talking about?

The blue thingie tells you how many dongle 'hits' it's had. Simply opening Cubase and opening one of my tracks produces 95 dongle calls - then many many more throughout a session. An hour long session I usually get upto 1000 + hits.
Before I installed it I had the dongle plugged into a USB1 slot and I noticed a very obvious additional wait time between opening the program, tracks and VST's. Anyone can argue this as it is only a subjective observation, but I'm happier with any slight increase in speed however real it might be.
Personally I thought it was worth it.
I'm also happy to have anoter USB port free as all 8 of mine are now in use!
I own a real copy of Windows XP too but choose to use a stripped down pirate copy without all the bells and whistles. My Windows XP installation folder is 400mb, RAM usage on boot is a mere 40mb and the registry is 1Mb. The speed increase was such that I put off a processor upgrade and bought other stuff. Bloody Microsoft bloatware!

Hey z1p^.The "blue thing" is the cracked dongle. Instead u plug the usb dongle(as original), on cracked Cubase version u have this "blue thing" wich emulates(i think) the usb key.
Many ppl say that the cracked version is faster than original one, cause the "blue thing" is faster than usb key.

Sound Surgeon - limitation is also a creativity booster!
really, you dont need that much channels if you think outside the box...
for example you could use one track to hold several sounds(not at the same time) and use the audio editor to raise and lower the volume of each sound, and use offline process of FX on those sounds... this could save you many channels...
maybe someone will say, you will lose bits and bla bla...i dont think thats a big problem, compared to everything else that has to be right for it to come out as a good track...

There is a lot of this going on in this track too, especially on some of the FX tracks.

Sheesh! A few months ago I was getting into Sonar LE and thought it was alright, despite the LE limitations. But it still looks so cluttered next to Cubase. |
