Does any portion of it go to the artist/label, or does it all go to beatport?

that is, does the artist/label get paid the same or more if I buy a WAV versus an MP3?

Yes the fee (wav handling) does get shared with the label/artist

Really? So it isnt a wavehandling fee at all in that case, just another option to make some money... Bad!

Afaik it is just money for beatport. But it might have changed lately. And beat agency probably knows more about it than I do.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

Beatport price gouging is legendary

I wonder how long it will take for them to provide:
1) FLAC support.
2) A file naming scheme that isn't devised by a 2 year old.
3) Some kind of system to differentiate genuinely new material from relicensed or re-released material.

how they name files is indeed ridiculous. There isnt even an artist name in there.

And some artist info would also be appreciated...

How they get away with that wav fee, crap naming convention and still are the top online distributor (I assume they are anyway) is beyond me.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Because if you buy MP3s and not wavs they are tons cheaper than most mainstream sites.

(for people in the US)

beatport charges $1.99 or $1.49 for MP3s ($2.49 for brand new/exclusive ones but only for the first couple of weeks)

In comparison, Trackitdown charges $2.26 (currently, it depends on the xchg rate) plus currency conversion costs

Juno, in comparison.. is actually way cheaper! Wow, fuck beatport

the file naming is that way because of security...I'm pretty sure that if I bought the same track as someone else we would end up with two different track names...the numbers in front of the track name are randomly generated...

I'm not saying that someone shouldn't figure out a better way to do it or have a better naming convention (I'm a rename Nazi and all my music files have the exact same convention)...just giving you an explanation why I think it's like that           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

no, the numbers in the front are a serial number for the track, they're the same for everyone.

No the number is a unique security number as Dovla correctly mentioned. I have been dealing with Beatport since 2006 and have asked them.

The idea behind the unique number is that it can be tracked down to the person who bought the music if it ends up on an illegal site. It's another debate how effective it is           www.beatagency.dk

A security measure automatically circumvented by the very act of renaming files to something that makes sense? Who's bright idea was that?

True

By the way they do have a download program where the files are correctly named. There are a few options for you in the Beatport Download app.           www.beatagency.dk

I've tried that but it isn't nearly as good as advertised... still have to edit the names afterwards so it seems like an almost pointless additional step in the process.

It's ridiculous that in this age of technology we can't have more people/sites offering psytrance flacs and stop the ones that do ie Beatport from having a monopoly. I'll never pay their stupid taxes, I will just keep ordering cds till the situation improves.
