I recently got hold of this neat free effect. it's not exactly a repeater, but it's able to do some wicked granular stuff.

I haven't completely wrapped my head around it yet, but there's the ability to scrub through sounds you've played into the buffer in realtime, reverse it and so on.
there are some mental presets - check it out

Ehhhhhhh glitch is useful. It's like having 8 good quality effects in 1 plugin. The beat repeat feature using it gives you a lot of options, and the coolest thing is that you can pan different fx to different sides, but that's not really what you're talking about.
If you can get a great result using it, use it. I use it, and I think it adds a lot in certain areas of my songs.
Another great thing about using glitch or replicant, is when you put them on a track, they only take a little while to configure for them to be making the sound you want. Bouncing, and editing takes lots of time, and when you're creating, at least when I am, and I start doing tons of micro edits, by the time i'm done, I have trouble writing new parts because my brain is in analytical mode. I started talking about glitching in general and not just stutter edits.
With just 'beat repeats' or stutter edits though, they usually don't take that long, so manually works.
Replicant sounds awesome though. You could compare it to Synplant almost, in Synplant you randomize sounds and pick the ones you like most to use, here you mess around with Replicant until your drum beat sounds cool.

^^^ what he says..
the op never stated that he was using it for production, yet almost EVERY post jumped on with the same old shit.
guess what.. every "manual" edit you make can be done the same exact way by someone else.. of course everyone should learn how to do it..
glitch is a STEP SEQUENCER/RANDOMIZER therefore I would still argue that its not a good example of what the OP wants.. then again he wasn't very specific.
I've heard it said that beat repeat is a very complex delay unit.. this is exactly what it sounds like to me.....
so to the op.. uh good luck!
(also op? whats wrong with using beat repeat?) |
