with vinyls, of course :-)
how do you think real DJs mix the tracks ?
it's not exactly without pitch ... it's that you do pitch manually: you hold the record with the finger, until u have a say ... 4-8 beats together ... and this is when u do the transition... wooooooooops... then u need to easy easy get the transited record to the natural beat .... easy easy .... woooooop that's it :-) [note this wooop can take a minute..which is hard]
nice thing is this vinyl..

and almost forgot.... you can start the 2nd record exactly at the moment when the beat matches for 8 beats, so you must do this pretty well [kickstart], and you must do this with it's channel open, this way you need only to fade out.... and this way you don't have to pitch at all, but you must have lots lots lots of either luck or experience ...

10x but i was asking for a reason so here's my story :
im going to New York in a couple of weeks where ill be buying some Dj equipment (for my room nothing more for now) i decided i want :
Gemini Bpm150(2 channels BPM display or Gemini PS-626 3 channels no BPM display (i think ill go for the bpm display) now i have a MD MZR-91 and a regular compat disc (both have no pitch control :( ) my question is will i be able to mix at least at a minimal level... ?
i know people on this fourm have a lot of Knowledge about these things so please share your thoughts :) u see i think that since i will have the bpm display i will be at least able to select the tracks in way in which they all have the same bpm more or less...

I was using normal diskmen for about a year and a half before I could get the cash together for CDJ's. It is possible, to beat mix, you unfortunately can only use track that are the same speed. You'll eventually figure out the time it takes for you cd player to start playing from when you press play (or roughly anyway) so yo just gotta get the timing right with two track of the same speed and you can beat mix them. You also might find that doing this helps sharpen up your timing and hence your mixing when you finally get your CDJ's. Other than that, you baiscally just gotta use the break, most trance trax have a slight break, 2 or 3 minutes later the major break and then another 1 or 3 minutes after that that have a smaller break that's the beginning of the outro, if you use the break after the intro of one track, you can usually mix it into the break before the outro of another. You just gotta know your trax fairly well so that you can avoid really clashing transitions.

if you got 1 cdj at least its easy. when the md is on line you are playing whith cdj's pitch till it will be tha same speed and.... when the cdj is on line you do the same but slowly because change of spee might be felt by the people that hear the music. |

Be wary of the Gemini CD-J10's. I bought a set two months ago, and they're pretty cool to mix with, but one of them is already screwed, it still reads trax, but it won't play them. I hit play and it just sits on the first second of the song without actually playing. When I can get it to play by switching the damn thing on and off again and again and forwarding and skipping and whatever else I can do, once I've got a beat cued, it take about 2 or 3 seconds for the track to start playing. Luckilly it's still under guarantee so I can get it fixed, but it's a bit of a hassle. Especially if it's going to keep doing this every two months. If you can, look at some denons or something like that, it's not quite such a nice layout as the gemini, but component wise, the quality is superior.

well... maybe u got a bad one... it's hard for me to beleive that gemini would put out bad quality CDJ'S... any way i don't think i will use it that much and it's going to be in a case in my room so i think they shoud be ok... 10x for the tip anyway ! |

Vestax... They make a Cd mixing set.. or whatever u call it... 2 cd players with a mixer in between (all one unit) but anyway the specs say you have 2 independent knobs for each Cd player. Speed (+ - 10%) and pitch (+ - 20 percent) or so. I know software can do it... I do it all the time with logic audio using the soundfactory. Thats impressive but if you can do it live.... thats amazing. |
