Beat-matching keeps you dancing, if you would do a fade-out-fade-in-fade-out-fade-in mix, THAT would be boring. In my humble opinion most breaks in psytrance are already too long. For me it's harder to get into trance when the music stops all the time.

boobytrip i understand what u are sayin but beat matchin all the time is lame .u need to go offbeat sumtime..and u see release from timecode they dont have much pause in tracks but using beats to build climax is amazing..its like a wave ..
just beat matchin everytrack is borin and doesnt build any atmosphere it just takes u in adrenalin dance..
your thoughts on this           dream on

It's all about keeping the energy levels up, where you want them.

Sometimes you might have a track that has a great build and a drop, but then after a time gets tired and loses the energy. If you can beatmatch it with a suitable track that keeps the energy going, you can build the energy even higher by switching to the new track, helping dancers ride the energy wave up and up. For me this is very important, having that constantly building energy.

But I agree, there are some beautiful intros out there that should be heard. Plus, as you say, letting one track play out in to the intro of the next takes the beat away and makes the beat even more powerful when it comes back.

I think beatmatching is important for keeping people dancing, when you want them to keep dancing.

well as a wise man once said
"beat-matching keeps you dancing"
but who say you should skip those important
(- telling a story , - moody , - intos ) intros?

they are a part of a track ofcourse but if you think twice and give another thought about the set structure you will propbly see that you start a set off with the track intro and can let the crowd relax and get deeper into the music after a blaster non-stoping dancind madness in the middele of the set and continue with a diifrent atmosphere and end the set with a nice long finish

even if u dont want "kick on kick" which called beatmix and lets say u want intro of track to get into next track u still need to match bpm and start the new track lets say when track thats playin is coming back from a brake... then it wont sound like kikick kikick but just normal beat... ohh and dont forget cue eq and all that           www.sattelbattle.com

(CAn i use this topic to post my question too?)
Do you think the trance pro Djs have marked on their CD covers the songs BPM ? Or they ajust it by ear?
I know that most people that are startin do this, but i wish to know if with pratice you can make beatmatch only by ear...

well if u check, u'll see that the mixer (dunno the version) of the pioneer cdjs (100 & 1000 at least) comes with a bpm counter hehehe
and a few days ago a friend told me that the 1000 come with a float bpm counter!!! lolo its amazing.. (XXX.X) i think soon you just "say" i want music to enter here. and it does everything auto.. ehehhe nice..
the dj can finally party with the people on the dancefloor lolol           this is how we are ought to see how sound really is..

I suppose we cud do both..beat match and use the intros...maybe simultaneously
..use the bpm counter and kinda match the next track with the one the crowd hears...
not as easy as it sounds tho...
im def for the intros..but short ones..
have a few words with the crowd..
BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kada, it is completly possible and IMO more proffesional to do all DJ work by ear it will take a bit longer to archieve but once you've got the hang of it its a piece of cake           Progressive, Full-on? Its all good <;}
