one thing i would like to know is there a way it will only play the length of the midi note and not the whole sample???

look for "one/single shot" parameter in the zone options (thats how its done in EXS24...look for something relative in battery) and disable it.
one "trick" that I have been doing since my AKAI S1100 days, is to copy all the zones of the sampler instrument and reverse their samples. Neat and quick way of having all your samples, reversed on adjacent keys.

if i remeber right you just have to activate the envelope..
go for addictive drums m8..way cooler imho..

Yep.
Click the cell your working with. Then click CELL.
You`ll see that there is a movable tab at each end of the waveform window marked S and E. Just move the tab to the desired spot to only play that length of the file.
Saw a good trick on the Andy Vax mixing video where you can layer two samples/cells and use either the start or end of each sample. Sometimes you may just want the click or bottom end of the sample, that window helps a lot with moulding samples to your liking.
