There's a world of help in the mother of all basslines forum, yet it all seems to be aimed towards mainly Cubase/Pc users. This Forum is for people who use Logic to share ideas and techniques on BASSLINES in Logic. |

Nope..
Same techniques, different sequencers
When you read, just substitute the word 'cubase' for 'logic' and [insert synth here] for ESM1.
.. or whatever synths you have and know how to program and like the sound of.
Psy bass is all about the decay. Set the ADSR all to 0 and slowly raise the decay until you round off the click.

esm is imo by far the easiest synth to program a bass on
just use a saw, set the cutoff to a bit more than half, vol decay around half, filter intensity and decay to ca.1/3, no resonance, a bit of overdrive...this gives you a good starting point, adjust velocity and everything else to your liking and you re done!
oh and I suggest you to use 3/64th notes...

you know what? I got a bassline (semi-related) question too.....
I cant get the grid to show me the resolution I want. for example, I work in 1/16ths, the grid is all good and snappy, then when I change it to 1/32nds or 64ths, I don't see the grid getting denser, it just snaps now to 64ths or 32nds.
Will someone be kind enough to show me that little button / option I didn't press / choose ????

you need to change this in/ on the transport panel (think its under the BPM reference. Default is set to 1/16ths. The quantise dropdown section above the arrange is only for quantise value not the grid. |

@ OhmLine: that was the first thing i was struggling in logic. if i understood right, LS. already answered your question. there you go...
@ charles: just take Mad's advice. es-m makes fat basslines by itself. almost... there are really no special settings needed. focus on eq, comp. and stuff. but if you really want i can send you a few patches.
for my part i really fell in love with albino basslines lately. oh sorry, i think i have to go back to the 'cubase bassline forum' |

quite low cutoff, high envelope following with short amp and filter decay. just what i think from a short listen. feel free to correct me, maybe i'm wrong.
if you are looking for more answers (i.e. wich synth or whatever) post in the regular bassline forum. i won't write in that logic topic anymore. it will just make a mess in this forum... |

Another good bassline tip came from MadScientist few months ago (sorry, I couldn't find the post to quote it), it involved using the ESM with 16ths notes triggered even on the beat (BBBB) through a 16ths Arpeggiator Object, and then sidechaining the kick.
This will give you a typical throbbing full-on bassline.

I know a lot of artists that run their bass through a tube or something to get that extra warmth... in logic try the bass amp, has a nice sound to it if once you get used to tweeking it
