you need something to synth your bass. you can use a regular synthetizer (which is more tweakable but is much more work) or a bass synth (which is easier).
for regular synths, albino2 can give a good bass. for bass synths you have vb1, ppd tritium, tau2, tau pro, novation bass station and much more.

I have made the Mike A bassline tutorial with Ableton and it just work fine! You just have to get confortable with the interface..

(Iihih, it's me that since last week was working only with Reason and don't wanted leave that sequencer. Now I'm in ableton and I simply love it!!!)           --

i played with ableton, the tone generator is cheesy to me, but its very moddable, i loved the interface and control you get over its sound.           G+ - Army Collective - Kontakt Recordings

My main problem is i cant get that rolling bass sound that you hear in psy. I have novation bassstation (not installed) but I can put it back on real quick. However, I couldnt get any different bass sounds out of that than i can out of my current synths (vanguard, pentagon, and the normal ableton synth). Its like the bass doesnt roll together or smooth out together like it should. Ive read a lot about needing to EQ and compress?? I'm not sure what exactly I need to do in ableton for this. As in, what does the compression change (it doesnt seem to change the sound when i put it on the bassline).

hello again!
i use only ableton as a seq for music production. i make myself basslines with albino2, 'AUbass' is the name of the preset which i prefer to use (pitched down sounds very deep & dark ).
you should make midi notes somewhere on 'F' note on 1/32. try with any bass synth, or even albino.
it MUST be good sounding if you will be trying
make attack fastest as possible, release around 15%... play with cutoff little... put ANY effects OFF.

if you make nice sounding bassline, then it's time to make some EQ...
cut everything from 40Hz to down, and cut everything from 10kHz to up. this is main option! then try to play with frequencies around 100Hz-500Hz...

this is some kind of the easiest way... you will learn in some time

hope you make it

forgive me if this is silly....but are you using simpler to load the bass samples into?

After that all you do is loop it, manipulate your loop start and end points then alter the curve to ease the start and end transition.

i make basslines from nothing - building it in midi seq.
then i'm rendering it to 1 fraze-long wav files which i EQ inside the audio seq.

What I don't understand is that when the discussion is about speakers most people seem to think it's important to have a setup with full-range bass respons.
But when it comes to EQ'ing most people seem to cut away all the sub frequencies.

I would say it's the opposite.

Unless you have a room that is acoustically designed so you get an accurate representation of sub frequencies you might just have as good a pair of nearfields as possible and just analyze the signal for abnominalities.

But to cut away all the subs as a matter of practice will make it sound thin for those who do have a system which can reproduce subs.
Sure it can make your sound more clean/sterile and give you a tiny bit of extra volume.
But I personally go for heavy over clean anyday.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

hey friend (Spindrift)
my opinion is, that better is to cut those freq. because at MOST time these subbas freq. are too loud for speakers (this is discussion only about the bassline at this moment).
this is BASIC thing that new ppl producing music should do. when they learn some more skills then they should discover more options...

of course if you have a system and a room, which are that good to make this subbas sounds well, then ou can trying to make it

thats my opinion bro
