how envy and egocentric ppl can be? this forum is sudenly getting full of this kind of vibe... sad

good stuff mike a, heres my 2 cents regarding a part of the post

This is how it looks eventually. Much better than what we had at start.
Notice the spaces between the basslines - this is what makes the bassline sound "fast". Without it all you get is one big hum. What I got here is not perfect, Perfect would be having a bit of silence before each note. But this is ok too. "

another way to achive those "silences" is compressing the tail of the bassline you can use a multiband compressor like waves c4 or logic's multipressor, just set the attack at 95ms (for all bands) and release around 130ms using compression ratios around 1-2 and your bands should be around 100hz, 1khz, 7khz

another tip you can found very usefull when making basslines is to add lil overdrive to your sound, it will add punch to a desired frecuency i like to overdrive around 3000 hz...

enjoy!

Hi Mike,

All I can say is a huge thanks for the effort and help you will certainly give to many an aspiring producer, and a big f.o to all the smart arses who think that this is too lame info to give out.
We need more help like this and less crap about which sinth inf mush or whoever uses.

I hope all the negative and sarcastic comments wont stop you and other likeminded individuals from doing this again.
Cheers Mate

Dude, you gave them THE F*CKING SEQUENCE. Why not pick the exact sound for them while you're at it? Ohh wait, the people who are going to try use this tutorial will probably copy it from Astrix anyways.

Personally dude.. the only thing I got from this tutorial was a more in depth explanaton of what phase cancellation looks like. I dont see anything here to copy really. The part about cutting the freqs off is great for anyone producing any genre. Not just Psy..

Thx Mike!!!

hello freaks
if u use FL u can try make something like that:
FLStudio Sidechaining simulation
"Is your kick drum being drowned out by your bass line? Try this simple side chaining trick to bring your kick back into the mix! For drum n bass you will find that it's more important to drop the subs out of your kick drum and focus on the click and low mids. Then you can EQ your bass to fill the subs. Another thing you can experiment with is to use a compressor that hits the subs whenever the kick plays - search for side chaining for more about this.

Fortunately there is an easier way in FL Studio to do this -- using the internal controllers. Try this:

1. wire a Fruity Peak Controller to your kick drum and make sure you disable the mute buttopn so you can still hear it.

2. insert a compressor on the bass line and wire the gain control to the peak level of the kick. To do this, right click the gain knob on the compressor and select "link o controller" and select the Peak Level.

3. tweak the base and vol knobs on the peak controller to get the right mix."
just for help some ppl with FL
and if u have some time try this site( http://www.spinwarp.com/ ) ...
good tutorials ...
i hope this help somebady

Yes it works fine

Also nice is fruity 3xOSC for bass. Don't underestimate its simplicity. U need just the one of the osc as saw. Adjust the envelopes and draw ur bass notes. In the pianoroll u can use directly cutoff and resonace parameters for all notes. A little bit of eqinq and compressing and u get a nice full on bassline            Signature

some thread recently said that skazi's bass was a TS 404 {FL} which i find hard to relate! does anyone know anything about chemical crew bass's. I found lots of ways to produce replica's of other Bass sounds but not quite that one!! I think it has to do with major eq cuts on 1&2khz?

I just want to say! nice thread!

in the end the positive and negative got some balance!

Mike A you did a splendid tutorial explaining how to get a tighter and clearer bass sound! which accounts for other sounds aswell....

i found this topic to be about technique and not about style!

Thanks for sharing Mike

By the way, this tutorial has really helped me to clean up my basslines, I really appreciate all the knowledge given in this thread and would encourage all to contribute to this and other similar threads. In the end, it's all about music and helping others express ourselves.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

TAU PRO 2: its a litle good emulation of the TB-303(but the song is "close"..)

VBass: good synth for a bassline but the new version is really very nice.

ESM: very nice synth for a bassline but it's complex.

YELLOW BASS: good song but not really a synthbass.(samplebass emulation).
but the hardware basssynth is better...

Hi Mike,

I've made a nice PDF file out of your tutorial, if you want people to have it when they're offline tell me and I'll send it to you.

One question: I set it up exactly as described but I can't activate the "key input" button in the compressor. Is there any setting I missed before I can activate it?
