looks like simple compression with attack to me (reffering to op pic)

No that transient is not something you can come up with a compressor, at least I couldn't recreate that using various fast compressors.

It is more about phase tweak and distortion that gave the desired result but yeah, a fast comp can accentuate even more the bassnote transient.

right this "strange" wave is a result of some kind of phaseshifting. try waves c4... it shifts the phase like this.
but note that the plug in makes this, not the compression of the plug in... even with zero settings it changes the phase...

too bad my new apple keyboard cant make screenshots... lol

i've had similar waves from basses made with ace. luckily a low cut, i was gonna do anyway, (and the resulting phase shift i guess) fixed the offset

any other ideas for fixing that?

Waveform is definitely phase locked to pos on trigger.

Was thinking that similar things can be done by modding the pitch at the note on with an envelope. Although I don't think that is done here.

Use a spare ADSR on pitch with sustain and attack at 0 and decay just barely open and you can get this sort of very punchy attack to the bass that will look in broad terms like what is going on there.

Yeah i mentioned the pitch shift thing eralier but it just adds a very strange feel to the bass sound... not the best to my ears.

Gotta be very careful when setting it up - you're phase shifting the rest of the signal - working with long releases whilst patch tweaking so it's easier to focus on the attack sound is vital when dealing with a complicated attack IMHO

i m not sure pitch shitifting make a transient like waveform if it s what you mean, i guess i havent understand right.. it dont change the amplitude even if it can sound like it , look at a psy kick it s flat as long as you don t use a amp envelop or processing.

i think with compression it s possible to get that peak in the waveform too, distressor can make pick like that i think and probably some comps software or hardware, transient designer thingy too maybe

you can do a frequency modulation and add a snap of harmonics using the decay of the envelope of the modulator. easy trick. gives you insane punch.           http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers
