Hello there. I am asking if there is some people who uses tau pro to make bassline. I work with this great machine a long time ago, but a this point i can make it sound clean. I just try another synths but the result is worse (i never use trilogy because i have the 1.1 version and its works bad and the proxydll crash my cubase).
My question.
Can anyone show me a loop with tau pro bassline, to kill my indecision, and gives me strengh to keep going work with this machine.
And somme tips to.
I have read a lot about the opinion of this vst, and there is a topic about that i can't anderstand, and is about the time of a note to cut the "muddnest". Much people says that is work better with a 1/64 notes, but i thing
that kill much the boddy of the bass, and that is really easy to resolve in eq mod knob.
Problably my problem is about eq, but there is a thing that with time i archive better results. But why eq a sound that is note good
enof?(that is the point i have more indecision, can i make a preset better before go to the next step).
Thanks for the help.... |

for me the best way with tau is to export to wav a preset you like , and then mess around with it in a sampler , then i eq and add multiband distortion.just try different methods i'm sure you'll make it don't give up . |

Two thoughts really.
1) about 1/64th (or sometimes even less ) - now it was a *long* time ago I stopped using this synth, and I've learnt a loads about basses in the mean time. So this might be wrong.
The reason I always went for 1/64th was that at longer settings the notes rolled into each other, so the attack of each note got muted, and it interfered with the kick. I agree it does kill the tone a little, and this is one of the reasons I moved away from the synth.
If it had sustain and release it would have been one of the out and out best ever bass synths though.
2) EQ. There are aspects of the sound you cannot remove with a low pass filter - these are the elements of the sound you need EQ for, if you look at the harmonic series on Wiki, this can help you get a clearer idea, but anything that forms part of the major scale you probably will be better off mildly attenuating. In other words notch filters/EQ are what you should be looking at!
As you say, your sound should be pretty darn good prior to getting the EQ out though. Concentrate almost more on getting the shape of the filter sweep over time right, and in the right part of the spectrum, and go from there. Your LP on the synth is designed for sound design, where third party EQ should be thought of (here at least) as corrrective, even though fundamentally, they are the same thing. Get the elements you want, and then get rid of the bits you don't want.

when making a melodic bassline i try to make a preset that does not need not much or no EQ cuts on the lower frequencies. eq to me is for repair.

Tau pro is very simple... saw1 is the best wave form, only detune if you need to, add no effects... it is all about cutoff and envmod knobs. Also accent settings and velocity of your notes will help, i use it with differente note lenghts... sometime 1/64 is too short...
You can use second osc for subs with a square or sine wave. cheers. |

getting there, but needs more tops in both the kick and the bass IMO.
They are well balanced though - you are using your ears right and matching them up properly, which is a very good thing indeed
Just give the tops a bit more bite - maybe with EQ, and it'll all hang together in the mix that bit sweeter
Not at all bad though! Good strong fundamental bass freqs - it will do the trick.
