I have had many problems with base notes sounding out of key in certain positions around my monitors,
I have found that since I notch out a few lower freeks more carefully, my notes seem to stay 'in key'
Try take out a little bit of the 'offending' key. i know its quite tight to do in the first or second octave, but it sometimes helps alot, it has for me. also try use a good eq, some people reccomend lin phase type eqs for presicion jobs like that

The thing is...how will that basslibe sound in a different room, once you've done that?

maybe try to change monitors and listening position ,set the listening postion at around 30/40 % from the front or back wall and adjust from their (monitors distance like in the manual and adjust a bit)

stay away from too much equing( you ll just eq your room imperfections ) ,unless you know well the room and have good acoustic treatment and monitors .

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I've managed to make it better. Was a combination of some bad eq'ing and monitoring.

you might be right, but I guess if i notched the 'wrong' freq out, it aint so bad. i think my room just accentuates some of 'wrong' notes better than other.
Hehe, i'm gonna find out sooner or later, i'll bet

Not sure if you meant me but I figured I'd post a link since I'm still running into this problem. Would appreciate if you guys had a listen and gave me your thoughts. It's most apparent during your typical full on bassline so that's what I made a clip of.

There's no FX or EQ on this bass either. The first few bars is all G0, the next few go up to G1 occasionally so you can hear how out of tune the two notes are.

im not sure i hear what u mean, to me it sounds like an unprocessed Kick Bass- which it is.

Velocity is very importaint as is Decay and sustain with fuk all cutoff, try Mod-vel to Cutoff etc. so u get rid of mudish shite, then your problem should or could be solved. bung a quadrafuzz can somtimes effect the harmonics making it seem out of tune but the fundimenlte is still present, just play with bands - if you ever use quadrafuzz

Hmm well if you can't hear it, I believe you. I tend to be very anal and perfectionistic so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm hearing things.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm using Albino for that particular one. The cutoff is at 0. Played around with filter envelopes, no difference. I've heard the problem with every VST i've tried though...even ESM sampled in Kontakt it just doesn't sound "right" to my ears as far as the key goes, no matter what room I'm in, or what set of speakers/monitors/headphones I'm using. I'm beginning to think it's all in my head.

F kick asses, powerful note

they all are , if you actualy notice big diffrences either the synth sux or the room is... , i cant remember on my guitar i ever thought one note is any better then others its all about the context and good synth patch sounds good all throu 2-3 octaves minimum.

very easy to find if your room sux just use pure sine on sub freqs and play with notes.. if one sounds bigger or lower then usualy thats the case (eq's off)

youre right, but again is that somehow i really like the tonality of the F note, F minor too, really love to listen the bass there , but indeed every note is so special and unique
