Bassline sounds out of tune when solo'd with kick

I'm getting the hang of making a decent bassline but one thing I can't seem to figure out is why it tends to sound out of tune when solo'd with the kick. As soon as there's enough leads or percussion going on over it, the problem disappears. It seems to get worse as I EQ and compress depending on where I cut or boost but is present even with no FX applied. I've made sure the kick is in tune and even remade it a few times to make sure. I'm also careful not to cut anywhere on the bass that's the frequency of the key I'm in.
What's the reason for this? |

C-tuner... what you use for bass? no detuning or accendently put it on uneven semitone? anyway check it with C-tuner...

I'm using Albino at the moment but every one I've tried has given me this problem. Tried sampling as well, with similar results.
I'll check out C Tuner thanks.

Hmm tried the tuner.
If I play G0 for example and hold it down, the tuner starts at F# and then quickly goes up to G.
I tried seeing how the tuner would react while just playing the bassline to the track and it seemed to be pretty steady on G0. When it goes up to G1 it's a little flat but still not that bad.
And after doing the test the problem seemed to go away...kind of like going to the doctor and feeling fine once you get to the clinic! Maybe my ears are just sensitive to the slight change in pitch when there's nothing but the bass and kick? |

You should call the track 'Aural illusion'

Haha good call!
Unfortunately I just listened to it again after a break on my in-ear headphones which emphasize the bass quite a bit. It's still there. It's also happening even with stuff going on over top, I just wasn't noticing it before. The low G is fairly stable but G1 seems to be way flat...I just can't figure it out. I was having the same troubles with the last track I was working on and never really fixed. Gonna go over it again tomorrow. |

hey, I've had this too.
I found in my case it was related to the filter envelope, basically shutting either to far, or too fast, or both
trying letting a little more tops through the filter, just for arguments sake, even if it isn't the sound you want, and see if that gets rid of the issue?

Check to see that you have no severe notch subtractive EQ going on, in ranges where the fundamental and/or its overtones are. And move around the room. I had the same problem for F notes in my room, but as soon as I got out of my monitoring position, the bassline sounded more in tune than when I was sitting in my monitoring position.

they all are , if you actualy notice big diffrences either the synth sux or the room is... , i cant remember on my guitar i ever thought one note is any better then others its all about the context and good synth patch sounds good all throu 2-3 octaves minimum.
very easy to find if your room sux just use pure sine on sub freqs and play with notes.. if one sounds bigger or lower then usualy thats the case (eq's off)
