Super-cheap but effective bass treatment: get a few old bedside cabinets from a junk shop, take the doors off. Stuff them with old pillows and put some nice psychedelic fabric over the doors. Stack them up in the corners of your room.

You would want to take the backs off as well. Pillows are not ideal. Some rock-wool would be more effective. You could even drill holes on the side to maximize gas flow.

I have tried a few things from SOS articles and they have been pretty shit to be honest.

Fair play, you sound like the expert. It was never touted as an 'ideal' solution tho, just a way someone with tens rather than hundreds of pounds to spend could make a difference to the low-end/low mids of their room.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

One obvious way to check is to see the meters at the loud notes to see if the resonances that you hear, are also peaking the channel meters. Other than that, if its your room, there will be some common frequencies that will somewhat resonate, no matter what notes you play (provided that there are over tones present there).

Sweep a sine in your room and note down those frequencies that resonate in your room.
I find my self unable to make tunes at certain frequencies because it just sucks to listen to a tune in my studio with a bassline writen at A flat for example.
Need to sort them acoustics out pronto.

moved into a new room few months ago ,now it s half treated ( used flexcl 100 mn btw seems to work great )pitching sine wave can help a lot to find a good place in the room ,i moved maybe 10 times speakers and mixing postion since i m there, trying to find the sweet spot ( at least a flat 40/250 hz ), and i forgot something, trying different height for the speakers and ears and omg i should have done it earlier it can really make things a lot better !

Hi,
In order to create dynamic bassline that sounds groovy you may change the bass notes velocity and volumes if you have double notes, but try and create a "V" like volume reduction, you can check out my work on youtube, on this specific track I've made a lot of bassline gates / velocity games.

Thanks,
Shay

i know what your talking about, it's not because the room, well it can be. but if the db is different when you measure it, its because you eq the bassline. check without eq and then see if the db changes in different tones, it should be the same.

if you use sharp boosts and cuts it might sound strange depending the notes played

i wouldn t do that but you could use a limiter and make your bassline flat like a pancacke
