The review:

After being posted as a topic here before where everyone got on about how 'stale' it was, I decided to write a proper review for this myself. You'll notice my opinion's a little different.

Track 1: We start off with Symphonix, and if you liked their album on Blue Tunes, you'll love this. It's just like the tracks on their album and it's got all the stuff in the right places. Some pads, good percussion, tight bassline and a driving rhythm overall to get the feet moving and the progressive heart beating. I like this track, that much should be obvious.

Track 2: Starts off with some manipulated voice and proceeds with a fat bassline and kick planted firmly in Progpsy roots. Nice and slow, the song is a lot like the one on the Tabernanthe 2 compilation from Iboga Mexico. And this is no bad thing. Good vibes all the way and so far this compilation is turning out way better than what some people claimed here some time ago.

Track 3: B-Tone huh? Supposedly Safi Connection's prog project. Hohum. Well, starts off quite stompingly and some degrade effects are heard, clearly marking this as Safi Connection territory alright. Anyway, it's a lot better than his last work as Safi Connection, since that stuff stank to high heaven according to yours truly. But as the song progresses it turns out to be quite alright. Nothing worldshattering, but quite some nice laidback melodies and a good work on the kick and percussion. Like the hihats too, a bit more pronounced than in most progressive of this caliber. All in all, pretty standard, but not bad at all.

Track 4: Another Israeli duo, Neo Logic is well known from their album on Candyflip. I never really cared much for their music so let's see if this can persuade me to say otherwise. Starts off with some samples, percussion flashes, some claps come in and the samples turn robotic and the percussion echoes. A (I must say) pleasant little bassline comes in and we're off. So far so good. I like the sounds in this one. In sound it's a lot like their previous work only a bit more pronounced if I do say so myself. More... pleasant may be the right word. Anyway, nice track.

Track 5: Next up Tron vs. Vazik and if I'm not mistaken this is more up to full-on levels. Let's listen and see. The song sounds like full-on but played slower to me. It gets a little repetitive around the 4 minute mark, but near the 5 minute mark a melody saves it again and it picks up a bit. Not a bad track, but not one of the best here.

Track 6: Mute up next with a song called Full-Off. If that isn't a pun I don't know what is. Let's see how this develops. In sound it reminds me a lot of some of Freq's earlier tracks but a little more minimal perhaps. A worthy track, which sits quite nice here. Shame this track isn't called Basic and the track before this Full-Off. It would've been much more appropriate. Anyway, to sum it up: a good track. On to the next one.

Track 7: Fat Boys, never heard of 'em. Starts out with a sample, some atmospherics and the bassline and kick come in. In sound it's psyprog again. Some samples of a chanting female and we're moving on again. Pleasant enough to listen to, the padsounds are nice and it has a 'different' enough feel to it to set itself apart from the rest here. Don't care much for the part at around the 5 minute mark though. That's overdone and they could've realized that themselves. There's too much going on. The outro is better again, but overall this is not one of the best here. Moving on.

Track 8: So Nasa is next. Nice vibe once more and this is typically Nasa stuff as heard on the 'Posse' compilation from Domo for instance. The track is long, takes the time to build and adds some nice melody on top of it all to round it off quite nicely. The overall vibe in this is positive and I'm liking this lots. A great track.

Track 9: Ovnimoon rounds things off with a nice track. A bit more laidback and not as fat sounding as some other tracks, but a nice groove and some good melody and percussion. Not a bad way to smooth things off.

Conclusion: Stale? Not a word I'd use for this. It might not be one of the best proggy compilations out there, but stale this is not. I like it and I'd give it 8/10. Listen to some samples and judge for yourself.

In my opinion this compilation is too poor... I waited more than this... For me the best tracks are the first, symphonix, an the last, ovnimoon.

What does a title matter? It's about the music isn't it? Oh well, some people...           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Acidhive, for me this VA is a poor attempt to get into the proggi scene that seemed to get stronger in the last couple of years. I have no problems at all with fresh sounding compilations from fresh labels with interesting ideas. But this is not the case, since it doesnt seem to me that the love of the genre made this compilation to be born but the love of the sales it might produce.

Maybe its only me, but that is my hunch on the issue.

I admit, the title is cringe inducing. But the music in this compilation isn't at all bad, especially if you like compilations from Spin Twist or Blue Tunes. And considering Groove Control already had some other proggy releases they sure aren't riding the wave if you ask me. Anyway, maybe you should just let the samples speak for themselves and keep an open mind. It's what I did, 'cause believe me, after I saw the title it made me cringe as well.
