hey.
i got me a bassline going and when i add a synth or a snare things go bad...
for example i play just kicks and snares..each sound is ok. when i add the bass i can bearly hear the snare and snare sounds twisted...
heres an exemaple of what i mean : https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_download&batch_id=Q01HNWNoSU9oMlh2Wmc9PQ

also with bass and some synths..when i add a synth line it kinda messes up the bass sound

how do i fix it? (i work with fl studio & vangaurd vst for bass & synths)

bass is tooo loud and it needs a sidechain!

than in fl u propably if u use the v8 u need to remove the fl limiter from the master.

than try to mix lower in volume and try ur bass not to overlap with ur kick!           http://www.landmark-recordings.com/

As earlier speaker said, to loud bass, sidechain or filter it. Sounds like there is a compressor or a limiter on the master, id remove it if i were you.

Yowser, try a steep low frequency cut on the snare and synths to avoid clashing with ze kick und bass. You can do this by applying several not-so-steep (6 or 12 dB) low freq cuts at the same frequency in Waves Req for example.

The only reason to have a limiter on the master channel is for catching occasional peaks. It shouldn't be used to compress the sound, that should be left to the mastering engineer.

The only other reason to use a little bit of limiting to boost the overall volume is when you are testing the sound or showing it to friends.

what if i like using the izotope ozone plugin to "master" the track at the end...i shouldnt use ozone???, or just turn of the maximizer there?? and use only the widener and stuff like that...?
or NO NO on the ozone completely?

mastering should be done after exporting the track, on a single wav. but I wouldnt recommend ozone for that.

a slight comp on the master to cut some strange peaks is not bad imo, and I use it quite frequently. but mostly I do this just to make sure there isnt anything what I havent seen/removed before in the mix.

MadScientist...
what would you use instead of ozone? and why does everyone hate this plugin...i think it does the job very well but im sure there is something i dont understand about it so would you be kind to explain why its not favored by alot of psy producers?

for me its mainly because I'm not a big fan of all-in-one solutions. there are better single-use plugins out there for each task which will defenately result in a better outcome than if you just used ozone. but I'm not saying that you cant get at least semi-decent results with ozone.

what I mostly use for mastering is sonalksis cq1, the single band comp of sonalksis, track-s compressor, the logic comp, psp neon & masterq, ap-eq, and in most cases the adaptive limiter of logic. but all depends on the track           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

Saii, forget about mastering for the moment. First learn to mix with nothing on the master bus. You will get much further much faster.
