is there away of spreading the bass without effecting mono compatibiltiy, so the bass just aint a centred blob, iz there away of pounding it into a kinda 3d bass. cheers for the saturation questions.

Chorus,but:

Put a chorus into a send channel and a eq above it and cut everything till 500hz, so the effect just chorus the highs of the bass.Put chorus to mix 100% and then send the bass channel to your taste!

I use Orion to write music, and they have a multiband fx unit which allows you to effect three bands sperately on any sound it's used as an insert for. What greententacle suggests, works great. I insert the chorus on the top band, and only sometimes use the lower two bands for eqing unwanted freq.s out of the mix, or boosting the bottom end. Be careful messing around with the bottom freq.s too much, it can make your whole mix sound muddy.

Just a note, if you are doubling left and right, as you guys are mentioning, you want to make sure things are slightly different on both ch's, i.e.- in terms of synths, adjusting the freq.s to be just slightly off in tune from one another, or some minor differences in eq, etc.
Other wise, you would basically get a mono sound if you send the exact same thing to both left and right.

icaro - yes, you will get mono signal, until you make one of the channel play with a _tiny delay_ comparing to the second channel. this way you don't need to make and differences in itself sound. in Cubase/Nuendo you don't even need 2 synths or 2 audio channels, Double Delay plug-in does the job perfectly.

@Sonica - Be calm friend. Technicality is your buddy.

Greententacles advice deals with having a main bass channel, and a send channel both playing. The difference between the two is that the send channel is Hipassed and has a chorus. The chorus is causing a stereo effect, while the hipass is keeping it from interfering with the lower bass frequencies played by the dry bass track.

Makus pointed out that your other topic deals with giving leads stereo spread which is essentially the same concept as this only here you are trying to keep your lowest frequencies in dead center, with only your uppers floating in the stereo realm.

Icaro stated that Orion has a multiband plugin which allows him/her to manipulate certain frequency bands only. Using this plugin he can apply stereo effects to his upperfrequencies without the need for a send. He then comes back to say that even if a signal is duplicated and panned seperately left and right, you will not hear it as stereo unless one signal is different in content, or timing.

Makus comes back to say that he can use a plugin that he has in order to create a difference in timing between his left and right tracks creating a stereo effect.
For bass, there would generally need to be a Hipass in front of this to allow your lowest frequencies to stay mono, or dead center.

I know I just reitterated everything everyone else just said, but I simply hope condensing it will allow you to feel less overwhelmed by the information.

You can usually get away with stereo fx on a duplicate high passed channel (or send) without any phase problems, but you obviously can't work in stereo on the bass channel while keeping it mono. I don't believe there's any way to emulate stereo sound while keeping something true mono (kinda self contradicting), if that's what you're asking.           You believe in the users?

click the 'mono' button just to make sure you not lose too much , and it make sense in mono rather then actualy play something completly diffrent . thats it.           www.sattelbattle.com

My favorite for mono sum and L/R soloing:

It's usually pointless to just convert a mono signal to stereo (dual mono), but if you want something to widen the sound, you can use the width knob on the plugin above..there's also a decent one in the Utility device in Live. Here's another cool free one for spreading mono tracks:
