Ehh what? Do you know what a substractive synth is?
99% of all synth bass sounds you hear a made with a substractive synth.
It really sounds like you have no idea of what instument you have infront of you, so don't start blaming the NL3 for not "making" the sounds for you. Get to know it better and everything regarding synthesizer programming.

| now seriously... could be because of the "substractive" synthesis tipe ?

no.
you can get a good bass sound with NL3. if you can`t, just keep tryin` and sampling.
sample your bass presets for additional tweakage in sampler, if you feel that envelopes are not fast enough or free oscilation is the thing you mind. you can add then some external fx (mainly eq, sometimes compress. etc.) - though fx are not often necessary.
i use sometimes psp mixbass for final gentle polishing of bassline .
and of course make your bassline sound good in context with kick an other elements in your track.

Avs : i think you are taking this too personal,
i am very happy with my nord lead 3 and i dont blame nothing bro,
if i ask that questions is because maybe for whatever reasons i havent take the time to study it, so, whatever...
black cat : thank you . yes i think that is a very helpfull way,, sampling the sound to stop having this big sine wave crossing the riff making it more stable and compact .

i think the nord 3 is ok for bass but like someone else said the virus is better which i agree...
also if u want something radical that makes nice bass and weird efx crazy distortion etc... get the dave smith evolver... u won't regret it but if u do get the vst editor which will enable it to work just like the virus TI
my 2 cents peace! |

Tried for a while to make basslines with my NL3 and not a chance.... no siree... It just doesnt do dugga dugga psy basslines. Anyone who claims that it can hasn't spent much time with these synths. Lead/pads/ripping/tearing/screaming yes but solid, rounded bass? Dont waste your time and try a vst. Get a better result in much less time. |

well at least you understand my situation,
and let me tell you, i think the NL3 is the best synth ever made for certain porposes like you said.
i have moreless 5 years with it, doing everything!(except basses, of coarse) but i love it! |

I think it has something to do with the saw oscillator on the NL3. I'm not sure, but they sounds kinf of buzy or raspy and the filter envelopes dont seem to behave like most other VAs do. They dont seem to affect the filter in such a strong way. Can get some good techno style basses out of it though...
Still, it is an amazing synth for creating powerfull alien sounds. Nothing sounds quite like it, even virus and the other nords! |

Ghe, funny you mention that some people say the virus is better for bass than the Nord Lead. A while ago i heard a lot of people say the exact opposite. Nontheless i found it pretty easy to dial in a neat bass patch on my Virus. Now i've been trying to get a cool bass sound out of a Nord Micromodular and this also proved not to be very difficult. Maybe it's just me, but i think both synths (virus and nordlead) can be used to make equally nice basses (albeit with a different character), it just takes a little time and patience.
