hey all,

quick question - i've been told by several people that my bass notes are too long to be compressed properly, ie - there is no "digital silence" between my notes. I have tried using VB1 and Muon Tau Pro - making sure there is absolutely no delay (tau pro). How many of you use external envelopes on your basslines - and how many save bass sounds from the synth, and then use them in a sampler ?

thanks

When I can, I record each and every note to audio, shorten it to be less than 1/16. Cut it exactly at the zero crossing point and then giving a fadeout to whatever I have. This should do it

seems to me a lot of people are doing this. need to give it a try.

btw - in the screenshot you posted regarding your tau pro bassline on another thread, you took the sound straight from the synth, with notes quite a bit smaller than 1/32 ?

VB1 has no user control over the release of the sound. The only way I've ever been able to make it do what I want is to sample it.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Yes. Actually there the notes were short enough so I didn't need to cut them. This is not always the case though. Just mixdown your bass solo and see if they overlap.

Jesus OpTiKoOl... it's not rocket science. Record your bassline to audio on its own. Open it in an audio editor. If you can see silence between each note then they don't overlap; if you can't then they do.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=overlap&r=67

If you can't see whether or not there's silence between two sounds in a waveform, may I suggest:

Sorry mate... I've had a hard day at school(s) and got frustrated by someone asking yet another basic question without seemingly having thought about it first. Felt like I was at work again... I should have thought twice before pressing Reply.
