Usually when creating my bass I layer it and I EQ but lately I've been hearing and reading about Quadrafuzz and bass distortion.
So far I've found the Ohmicide VST and I'm trying it but I would appreciate if anyone could any one recommend a quadrafuzz equivalent or something similar for PC/ableton users.

I kinda dig to add distortion as a send effect now. This way you have more control over the distortion.
So set up your distortion as a FX channel and add an EQ after the distortion and cut off everything below 100-150 and above 3-5 khz. Than apply to taste and skip through some presets of your distortion.
Try the d16 distortions for example.

Last night I added some distortion on top of the layering and EQ and I was very pleased with the results.

Supergroover, D16 Redoptor does the job like a fuking boss. Thanks for info man. I can instantly feel the better sound but I'm just beginning to get around it. Do you use it? |

I really like the redoptor and the devastator.
Great distortions that give plenty of control over the sound especially as a send effect! I use them quite alot.

I actually found out Amplitube and Guitar Rig work great for adding distortion do the bass (yeah, it should of been a no-brainer, but I just never thought of using it like that..)
Sometime I use Ableton's overdrive with Ableton's Saturator when "refusing" to use external FX's
