BASS DILEMA !!!!! omg"!!!! NOT AGAIN!!!

Hello there.!!first of all merry christmas to all!!. now. I have a problem with eq in the bass. I have a really bad speaker system m-audio small ones.And the problem is, that I kind of eq my bass and it sounds good and fat in my speakers.But when I hear the bass in some headphones or other speakers,it souds totally different. for example. When I think I got my eq and everything fine, I try to listen to it, in the cheapest headphones to see if everything sounds good there. But the bass It doesnt even sound there jaja. is so crazy cuz in my speaker it sounds killer.(or thats what I think )SO how can I rally know whats happening with the bass or the really low frequencies-. Like my first move was to cut from 20hrts down, And it helpped a little but there are still some low frequencies, headphones do not percive- So do you have anny advice on how to sound the same in anny speaker system?.Or maybe anny advice on eq? or maybe someone knows what Im doing wrong! hehe thnks in advance.!!

If you're listening to the song in horrible headphones, they will not pick up the low frequencies as much. Just like if I listen to songs with a ton of bass on my laptop speakers, the bass will sound almost non-existent.
My opinion on your bass, is to bring that frequency envelope down a bit. The envelope is too open, if you tighten it up by reducing the envelope, more of the highs in the bass will get cut off, leaving the more bassy frequencies to shine through. Then you can compress the bass to tighten it up some more.
You should probably forget a lot about EQing the bass and do some more work on tweaking it just on the vsti that you're using itself. EQs can make dramatic changes, but I wouldn't depend on EQs for those.
If you need more bass, you can try stuff like RBass and MaxxBass by Waves, but I rarely use them because it's not easy to keep them from making a bass sound muddy.

hmm first i would try to sharp the envelopes a bit, like obelizk said. with some more air in the bass.
for the eq side i would say less is more  |

i think your bass is not bad at all.
for my opinion it's need a bit more presence.
if you said you didn't hear the bass at the headphones so i'm sure i'm right. give it more from the high mid.for my opinion you can raise the volume 1 or 2 db. i guess with the eq you raised up the low's so be a bit more gentle with it or even don't raise at all.
Cosmosis said that he does all the processing of the bassline at the vst. i found it best to listen to him. some vs'ts can give you enough low frequencies.
anyway i don't think your bassline is bad at all.
i totaly understand you worry about the bassline because it's happened to me so many times but i think the best would be to finish the track and after make your bassline perfect, at the start of the mixing of the track. |

bass sounds fine, do not rely just on one pair of ear phones.
In fact you should have as many reference tools as possible.
although i think its missing some low end..
Consider running it through quadrafuzz. |

Actually!! u guys were right.!! it was more in tweaking than the procces it self. I gave it a little more decay on my envelopes. And played with the filter envelops, and presto!!! hello bass. All the low end that was missing is now heardiable. U guys are good!! thnks again.cheers!!! |

check if the compressor realy helps for the bassline. or maybe it's even ruining it. i found that compressors on bassline sometimes not so helpfull. |

HUU NICE TIP. I always try to compress the bass to get that crispy sound but sometimes it just makes it worse.(humming sound) but cool thnks. Im gonna try no to compress the bass. And make all the tweaking directly in the vst. Im using trilogy.

i like to group kick+bass with compressor to even up the dynamics,sometimes i add a maximizer also to push them up a bit usually it works great it depends in what situation.
always try to fit the kick to the bass as much as you can before compressing,sometimes you just don't need it and it sounds good without it.just use your ears:-)
