Why its happening?(Bad eq, i thing????, or bad sound bass???)

my humble advice is to never mix or eq with ur headphones..
specially bass!!
if u have studio monitors , thats all u should mix with. if u have cheap speakers and good phones (like myself) try to come up with something that sounds good on both (or at least acceptable)
anyway, get proper monitors and mix with those..
for fx i use compression , then eq... and thats about it.           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

If your bass sounds good on your speakers but bad in the headphones, the chances are it's a little too much in the low end. The thing is you only notice on the phones because it leaves very little space in your ear for everything else.

I used to have the same problem. Don't high pass it, but you want it cut a little more from 300 down to around the subs. Keep experimenting with cuts around that region using your speakers. This should also give you a much clearer mid-range area and a much more round sound to build on.

Once you get it cracked it will sound pretty good on all speakers.

Never compromise

it's very complicated to get good bass on home stereos

some people say they do it... but... off course, some stereos might have good speackers compared to average monitors.

headphones are crap for production. you can use it as a reference, but not for actually mixing. you might damage your ears also...           roll a joint or STFU :)

i believe that the proper mix should be done with monitors and after that you fix the little things with your headphones(such as Delay/reverb amount , "dirty" sounds , etc )

Studio monitors are said to give an honest representation of whatever is put through them as hifi speakers will usually add there own colour, EQ, compression etc.

However I also don't think there's much point in investing too much in a good set of studio monitors unless the room you use them in has an equally honest influence.

Hey Adharaguy,

I've experienced exactly the same problem and 'choosing' speakers or headphones is not a solution. That is the bottom line - I can pretty much guarantee that if you listen to your favourite released tracks they sound awesome on both, right?

Solution: your tracks also have to sound good on both. Probably its not enough there, personally I test my tracks on 4-5 different audio systems before I'm convinced it sounds good in general. Try ýour car if u have one and so on. Well produced tracks sound good on all systems and while helpful, it is NOT due to mastering.

Believe me I know how frustrating it is, but say if you find it easy to make it sound good on your speakers but not in your headphones, then only work with the headphones to start with and go to the speakers once you are happy with how it sounds in the headphones and so on...

@sy000321: Crap for production I don't know - they may not be optimal but they are still a valid reference medium. If your bass sounds bad on headphones chances are you need to improve it, like I said before if your listen to your fav tracks I bet they sound good also on headphones...

But I agree that in general monitors give a more accurate picture.. if you have a perfect setup in terms of acoustics. I don't and thus have to test on various systems.

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more.

Supposedly by plugging this plugin into your master channel insert, it simulates speakers in the headphones
by mixing a little bit of both audio channels into each speaker, this way you can do a proper mix in the headphones...in theory. If I remember, what it does is more complicated than that, but I've heard that people have gotten good results from it.

I'm not sure where I got it, which is why I'm just hosting it on my site....
If anybody knows, I would like to credit the original maker of the plugin but anyway...

Guess it's worth a try though.

make a sweet spot and dont run around in the room trying to make a universal sound.. it wont work...

headphones is a bitch to mix on(for me).. i have sat a whole night with a sound that was way too loud in the mix, when i lowerd it the track sounded way different.. but this i heard in my monitors.

all headphones sound different.. i have a pair of Sony Hifi headphones which tells me alot, but if i use my akg k240 i will get another picture... but they both have their purpose.

one good purpose for headphones is hearing phase problems, or for hearing if the panorama is okej and sound tight... there are of course more usage of them, maybe someone care to tell what they use there headphones for, except playing in the night if you have neighbours.. i mean like spotting things in the mix that monitors might not be so good for... ?
