Need a list of online shops???
Dont think that we have too many places to buy electronic music here in Israel. We have more than in Brazil, but still, most of the ppl you see here get their CDs online AFAIK.
Please REMOVE my cellphone number from any SMS spam list you may have. Thanks.

I think in fact that MP3 sharing is a double edged sword, both good and bad for artists. People who download 200+ albums and never spend any money on records are taking the piss, admittedly, but I know for sure that file-sharing has exposed me to a lot of great music I wouldn't have been able to track down otherwise and wouldn't have even heard of if not for MP3 sharing. I'm sure that your music, artists, is heard a lot more widely as a result and many people who haven't heard your stuff then do. Surely this can only be good for you???
I can understand you being frustrated at losing out on your income though. Myself, I download the odd track when someone I'm staying with has a PC, I can't afford a PC myself and would have no real use for one living on the road. I probably have about 10 tracks on MD that I've downloaded ever. I've spent ££££'s on a large vinyl collection over the years. I don't think this makes me a villain.
I think that complaining about people recording live sets is getting a bit precious though, Elysium. Live sets are a one off, never to be heard again and there aren't half as many available as there should be. I would be pretty pissed off though if, like you say, you get emails praising your music from many more people than actually buy your stuff! That's got to hurt!
Some of the arguments I've seen here are pretty unpleasant though. "If you can't afford something, you can't have it!" is probably fair to say of something like music, but I think it's sick that this attitude seems to apply to just about everything in this world for some people, including stuff like food, clothes, shelter and healthcare.

Nice one traveller!
But then shouldn't it be free? Or should just the musical equivalent of rice and beans and bread be free and we have to pay for more 'luxury' music? Or should none of it be free, and the poor starve? Anyway, enough of that already!
I meant to say as well earlier that MP3 sounds shit through a big PA. Nothing sounds as good as vinyl. Digital sound is so compressed and you really notice it on a big system.
I think the question that still needs to be asked as well... Would you still make trance if you DIDN'T get paid for it? If the answer is no, I don't think you have any business making it in the first place.

Actually I could not agree more about the healthcare and shelter issue. But these are things that should be fundamental rights for any human being just as water, food, democracy and peace should be.
Music is a whold different matter. It's not a nessesarity to survive and live a desent life. It's a bonus just as all non-surviving things are and should be paid for. But of course it would be nice to see the prices lowered.
btw. There's anew survey in Denmark asking people if they would buy music instead of downloading music if the prices were lowered around 50%. The not so surprising answer was that 67% said NO, 12% said yes and 21% did not know. Quite interesting result that speak it's own language

I'm shocked and a bit appalled by that survey, Elysium. I don't actually like music in MP3 format and if music in the UK (where I currently am) halved in price my collection would double, no, fuck it, even treble in size sooooo quickly it would be untrue!!!

Yeah I agree technoid.. But it prove what I have said all along that some people really dont give a rats ass about the artists.. They just want things for free if they can get away with it.
Btw to be fair the survey numbers was wrong and have just been updated (not the survey's fault but the people informing about the survey - KODA in Denmark). It was only around 50% that said NO and 35% that said yes and 15% that did not know....but still it's quite a majority that dont care what music cost as long as they can get it for free. |

From 15 - 25
I will post it here as soon as the official survey is being published. But of course this is only a survey concerning Denmark but somehow I think it's quite representative to other countries |
