I do have a credit card, and I buy music online(why do I feel that I will have to repeat this to you another 50 times?) I wasn't talking about myself since I think I have more money than the average person in Zagreb, I was talking about the other ppl here who love this music...most mp3s here aren't downloaded at all, people just burn mp3 compils that are ripped from originals...and they can't afford to download them from the net since our connections are slow as hell...I'm one of maybe 100 ppl in croatia who have DSL and it's still slow in comparison to standards in other countries and I have a limited download/upload...I just wish you would realise that ppl here don't have money to start a musical collection with only original music...and they can't download tons of mp3s from the net either...we have only one phone company here that has monopol and ppl just didn't learn to buy stuff over the net....most of them are afraid of it...as dumb as it may sound to you...for instance the last cd I bought online was shpongle remixes and it was at a really reasonable price, I told this to a friend of mine and even though he knows it's cheaper that way he will still wait a month before the cd actually appears in our shop...it's just a general oppinion here....hopefully things will change...but in any case I think electronic music wouldn't be what it is today if we didn't have mp3s...oh and here's a mind bender for ya...if mp3s suck so much than why is the whole final scratch thing so popular lately?
I'm not going into the discussion about good and bad artists with you. I didn't call you a bad or a good one...I said if you were a real one you wouldn't worry so much about this

if you ask me most of those guys in soulseek, psylab & psyside (yes i've been there myself) are total assholes. they all have fucking 100gb of psytrance and all they're doing is trying to get more and more. i doubt they've really even listened thru all the stuff they've managed to pirate. they don't preview the music, they just simply download it. if they like it they'll probably look for 320kbps rip but they sure as hell won't buy it. i get dovla, if mp3 is the only way for trance scene in croatia to survive, then why the fuck not, the scene wasn't about money. not saying that it is today, but basicly it's about people having fun. elysium i do get your point, but well there's really nothing you can do, besides bitching. some leeches do become trancers, it just takes a little time. |

No it's not Logic... It's logic that the promoters play on the safe horses to make as much cash as possible and by that never educate people to listen to anything else that the same 10-20 bands going from party to party... Yes many people like them because they never get to listen to anything else... Of all the parties I have been at... and it's many! I've never seen the small artists get a chance... It's always the established names... Count me out.... I dont wnat to play what I used to play so I am cool with my situation.... But I am campaining at the many very tallented artists that never get a chance because frankly many (not all) promoters don't know the first thing about throwing parties with quality... they are only looking for quantity!
Why is it ignorant to question Dovla? Just because someone dont have much money does not make it more right for him to take the a peace of cake without permission. It's a weird idea that people with less money are intitled to free music... I just dont get that idea!!! I dont have money to buy a car but i want one so I'll go and steal it because my neighbour can afford one!!!
Yes I'll bitch some more.... I am sure it wont get through your thick scull anyway.... maybe one day when all the talented artists have left this scene and you're only left with kids on computers making clone music you'll get your eyes open why many of us the artists bitch so much these days! It's not us that destroy this scene...it's people that act like leeches.

I totally support EP here. Not having money doesn't mean you can steal it.
And another issue - about the quality thing, there are more and more "releases" showing up using loseless monkey's audio compression.

I don't want to talk about the party situation so I'll just skip that part...I didn't say it's right to just download and share mp3s...but I did say that if they didn't exist...there wouldn't be a trance scene here, I probably would never discover this music and never buy any of it...why can't you look at it from that perspective?...can't you at least agree that if there weren't mp3s today that lots of people would never discover this music and start going to trance parties...as for "real artist"...for me it's just and artist that doesn't worry so much about this whole situation...because let's face it...besides you and several other artists here...I don't see anyone complaining about it so much...no one likes it but they don't complain so often...just look at how much time you're spending here trying to proove a point when you could be making music for instance...you're more into this whole legal/illegal thing then anyone else...doesn't that say something? To me it says that you're only interested in money, not really caring for the music...maybe it's not like that, I can't tell since I don't know you personally but it sure as hell looks like it...in any case no matter what you say or do...things won't change...so I suggest you start spending your time better
oh and you didn't answer to my final scratch question...

Well, if my neighbour could replicate his car and make a "clone" for free, I would definetelly ask him for some!Wouldn't you??
E Project, I see you're really annoyed, I must say I can even agree with "some" of the things you say. But I totally disagree with the way you choose to express them.
Peace!

Yes!
For me (as a DJ and party-goer) this is the more annoying issue. Sound quality. Not the quality on headphones or home strereo, but on BIG party systems. There is a difference.
It is funny when I go to a gig and see into the case of the DJ before or after me - all burned CDs. Hmmmmm... And I hear every new release in the party. Hmmmmmm...
IMO, DJs spinning mp3s are the bigger problem than listeners. Not only because of the crappy quality at parties, but also DJs are the chronic music buyers. If they aren't buying music anymore..........
If people want to argue that they have a right to download & hear music, whatever. But don't give me shit that you have a RIGHT to be a DJ with downloaded music.

I agree completely that both are wrong. But the DJing mp3s is personally more annoying to me since I go to parties and have to hear the shit quality. As a DJ, I am happy to buy and play 3-5 new CDs per month and I see cases with *every* new release burned with no thought of buying.
And I do think that DJs depending on mp3s hurts sales more than listeners. For sure both hurt, but DJs are the biggest and most consistent buyers of electronic music. When DJs are buying less, then we have definite issues.
I am not justifiying one or the other, just giving a slightly different viewpoint on the aspect that bugs me the most. A DJ or a party-goer will have a different perspective than a producer, a label manager, or a pure-listener/music lover.

EP I have another question for you...even though I'm still waiting for an answer about final scratch....
tell me, how come almost all techno djs always let party organisers record their sets?...there are tons of dj sets in mp3 format available for download everywhere...and I'm sure that those sets have both released and unreleased material

First Dovla I dont knwo what final scratch is so explain it to me and I will answer.
Second: Dont you think it's the organisers or for that matter the sound guys that record the DJ/Live sets without permission? It happens at all parties... I've "busted" a few myself!
I honestly dont know anyone that want to record their sets unless it's band that need it for alive CD release! But I cant say that all dont do it.... But what does that have to do with the fact that people rip music? I hardly think that a recorded set at a party is the big deal in the BIG picture of mp3 pirazy.

OK, question:
We can download whole books from the internet, some legal, some not (Project Gutenberg for those interested - http://www.gutenberg.net/find.shtml ) yet there are hardly ppl who do that and then print a copy.
Lots of us use crackz, warez and copies of softwares freely without thinking twice (do you OWN your MS Office? Your MS Win? Your antivirus???)
so why are we so into - ban mp3?
(book writers are artists too, computer engineers are too in a way, and besides - it's all stealing)
and dont tell me that it because it's a Trance forum that we do not speak about the others....
Please REMOVE my cellphone number from any SMS spam list you may have. Thanks.
