Too idealistic? Me? Maybe I really do...
Except by the fact that we are nothing without our dreams... You are right.
Would you like I could be more realistic right?
Let me try:
Mp3 will never be banned, and I know it for sure.
New, better, more compressed and high quality formats will come and come...
People who loves trance, also loves to share; energy, vibe and why not music?
The Cd will also goes better! I listen something about a SACD (super audio cd) here in Japan, that will be a blast with quadrophonic surround sound. This is the one will heat the cd commerce again. Or not($$).
I think also, the CD prices will get down! There is no way to hide from it.
This is real.
Now backing to the idealistic style:
"What transcend the artist do not pertain to him, is humanity's domain."
"Artists who make music thinking about how much they will sell at first place, and not how much people will dance, trip, and have a good time with his creation, so he's already corrupted! "
"Artists will never lose his creation. Thats why download is not to steal."
"...Life must to be a preparation for transition to another dimension..."

MP3 is formed with a passion for music.
Although there are method for lossless compression MP3 is not bad coz it doesnt bypass things that your ears can feel.
Secondly i dont think mp3 is a issue for us trance lovers. It may be pain in ass for one who makes music for money.
People who dont believe in spirituality shall hate mp3 trade.

what what, so its spiritual to compress an artists expression, to destroy its true essense, to circulate it across the globe.
its spiritual you say
We all love this music,
you people talking about cd prices going down
the price for quality \
you get what you pay for
A consiuer of Fine wines drinks only fine wines
therefore people who appreciate quality get quality. Theres lots of SHIT out there for all the others to consume now isnt there.
Your killing the soul of this music

I'm not totally against mp3 sharing. As I've said before I think it can be a good thing. I just understand the frustrations of someone in Kristian's position.
And someone who creates art with the sole intention of making money is not creating art, they're creating product.

Nice generalization there. Cereal-box logic....
Just because an artist or label chief wants to be able to make a living (not get rich!!!) from working with music doesn't mean they are greedy. Just because somebody wants to make enough money from trance to *live* doesn't mean they are concerned only with the money.
Really, is *anybody* getting rich from psytrance?? The artists & labels who complain about downloading are just trying to be able to survive doing what they like. We aren't talking Metallica here.
I don't think these guys are wanting gold-plated shark-tank bars....they just want to be able to continue being professional musicians instead of having to get another job and only do it part-time.

Well all I can say is that I now have a full time job which pay me good money so I can pay off my debts (many which I got while making music), pay for my rent, phone, clothes, food ect ect ect.
The downside is that I dont have much time left (if any) for what I really consider my life's job and "the love of my life" - to make music. Heck I dont even have a studio anymore since I had to sell my equipment to survive!
But what can I do?
I can of course quit my daytime job and live on the street while making music
What do I do in the meantime until my music is ready and until I am "famous" enough again to be invited to play?
I do get some invitations to play but it's sure not the same amount anymore simply because an artist that don't release much music wont be invited.
Just give me a direction or a solid idea that will make sure that I dont have to live on the street while making music I bet you can't!
I am not talking about becoming rich - I am talking about making enough money to be able to put butter on the bread!
Very very few artists actually make enough money to survive in our scene and 0.00005 % made it bigger and became kind of rich!
When you all say that we can just go out and play... well sure but what about all the times when a gig get canceled and we dont get any money (even with contracts)? It actually happen around 20-25% of the time... We still have all the expenses to pay... many times much more than a normal person since we have to keep in touch with people all over the world by phone! yes I know there's e-mails but many times the organisers prefer phones!
And we also have to stay in different countries over weekends (sometimes even longer) and cant just go home because the flight tickets simply get way too expensive for the organisers to pay for if we want to go home right away.. So we end up staying in a country where it's very expensive to stay. And we many times have to pay for food, transportation ect ect... Try that and see how much money you would have left after that
If you dont understand what I tell you here then I pity you
In the end it's not really the artists that's greedy but all the people downloading tons of music simply because they can get away with it and because it's easy, comfortable and "free"! |

After reading so much of these discussions I can just say....I don't wanna touch this with a forty foot pole
If you took all the time you spent here arguing about mp3s on other more important issues and you'd feel a lot better

Isen't that a bit hard Dovla?
It might not be of any concern to you or even important at all to you but to me and other people it's quite a serious issue. Yes it's not about hunger, abuse of human rights or about war ect. and I agree that these subjects are way more more serious but still the mp3 issue/problem affect each and every person's life. Of course in different ways
I just know that there are some people that will respect (not nessesarily agree) that I take the time to try to explain where I am coming from and why it's such an important issue for me (or problem) and other artists. And then again there's people that don't care or even spit you in the face for trying to make peole aware of what it mean to us and our music... It's of course up to you to categorise yourself into one of those 3 boxes |

All you people are wasting your time discussing all these details.
Bottom line is written here my friends so listen up!!!
The internet is cheap and accessible to the greates number of people in the world. When the CD came out as a format the developers convinced the industry that it was cheaper to make cd's than tapes and its better quality.. And id IS!!! The problem is that they charged twice the amount of tapes. tape 8 USD cd 16USD. This is GOOD BUSINESS and they made a lot of money and eventually got used to reaping unheard of profits..
Suddenly mp3 comes around and fucks them in the ass!!! Power to the people... The whole industry is revolutionizing, conceptually as well as methodically so starting from the music creation process(which we all know has dramatically changed) to the distribution of it, it will never be the same. SO STOP YOUR BITCHING!!! ACCEPT THE REALITY AND MOVE ON!!!! music will be downloaded, next is movies, and after who know!!!
The issue is simple, its about MONEY... We live in a Capitalist world. The key word here is CAPITAL which means property, cash, equipment, and now, intellectual property... So understand the world and live in it without complaining....
So what if the artists don't make their music anymore!!! FUCK THEM!!! Do you think that this will stop the music from being made!!! the psy trance from being produced!!! NEVER!!!
LONG LIVE FREEDOM AND MUSIC!!!!
Peace |

Dear Elysium project:
Clearly people dont like your music as much as others, otherwise you will be invited to play. Don't be bitter about it, just accept it and move on!!! LEARN AND GROW!!! I can only recommend one thing: re-strategize!!! develop new ideas and better ways of using your time/money/music creation capabilities, new ways of channeling your efforts, and with hard work you will succeed!!!
All the other artists were not born famous, they had to work for it. And if this is what you are seeking then, that is the price you are going to have to pay!!!
PEACE!!!!
ps stop complaining, its really childish!! |

vikuna29 I dont have much to say to you. Except that you havent understood a word of what i wrote. If you had you would not call me childish!
I really dont care if you know me or my music since I have never been into this "star" thing in the first place I just suggest you do your homework before you start to lecture me about how to make it in a scene I have been part of since 1992
May I suggest that you listen to my music before you judge it? Just use google.com and search my name Kristian Thinning and you'll see tons of releases under various project names.
Superglue & Nectarious I agree with a lot of what you say and know it's very different times now. I was basiclly just asking the questions theoretically to make my point stronger
I do have a plan and I am working on it right now to get back into the game But be sure I will never start making formularic fast music just to sell more. I would feel like lying since it's not my game to make music I dont like |
