How do you keep the balance between your work/faculty/school or something else you do for a living and your music production ?

I`m a student on a faculty of mechanical engineering and naval architecture, and I really don`t have that much of a free time.
I often get frustrated and just wanna be in the studio 24/7 to realize my ideas..

How do you make it? Are there people in here that make profit of their music and that is enough to make a living?

And there is also a social life...
Is it me or there is just not enough time ?

there's a point in life where you have to chose...
the social life comes after a hard studio work. good time where you collect the benefits of your work

Give up the condo life, give up all your flaming worldly possessions, go live in a dilapidated house in a toxic waste part of town..           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

My 'plan' that I am currently attempting to execute in regards to this

A) find job that is 40 hours a week or less (enough for shelter, food, herb, music+gear and the occasional festival), that is also not a gigantic ball of failstress

B) only go to psytrance parties/out on dates

C) be a studio hobbit during every other waking hour

I wish I would go to school again, then I'd probaply have enought time

But now: got a 40h/week job...often stressful and annoying, but pays the bills and extra stuff (music gear, herbals^^, parties/festivals)

In my free time after work I would like to do at least 2h for music stuff every day, but thats more difficult than it sounds.
Often when I come back from work its late, im tired and stressed...sometimes even in a very bad mood(dont like my office job anymore)...not the best conditions to make creative things.

And then there are friends, my girl, the cat ^^ they want attention too

I guess proper time management really could help there...or a new job with less stress.

I usually make music over night with help of my headphones, when everybody is sleeping..

Hard to find the time in last year.. I usually get home around 6 pm, then have to study couple of hours, make projects for the faculty, 3 times a week have to go to training, then my girlfriend....ufffff

Wow, it was if I typed that... even the cat stuff.

It is hard, wish I could wake up for music instead for driving to work.

Well,Im exactly in your shoes,man...Mechanical engineering here,in supposedly the best(read : we will rip your cavities apart so people will think this is the best place to learn) university in my respective country. If you got time for life, then, you just don't have enough homework.

I personally use night time to do stuff...I take this most vile and most evil wonderfull shit ever invented by human being called Ritalin (doctor says I got ADD,I say I just fuking hate everything to do with engineering) from time to time to complete my assignments, and side effect of this evil shit is that I can't sleep at nights. So I just sit there for hours tweaking buttons till I fall asleep.

Once or twice a week I go to sound room in my uni,it is a good chance to work on a normal setup and meet some interesting folks (who just cringe when I sound them what I do).

But yea, there are weeks when there is just aint enough time.It is important to set time for different things and arrange your schedule and prioritize, but if you have artist mindset deep down, you can't time yourself when you just have a great idea.So its a shame.

On a bright side, engineer folks have no problem getting all that technical mumbo jumbo,in a month I had inside my skull stuff that takes years for people to learn, just because they are familiar from different aspects of my studies.

Do you know the origin of the world "passion"?It comes from Latin pati, which means suffering.Be ready to suffer for your passion, dude .

And get a girl (cool one),she might take your time, but it works great for your muze and your mood...

yap, it is hard when you study a faculty like ours..
It is great for the technical terms but it is totally oposite from music stuff. In a creative way.

I have to do some calculations for the welds on my project till tommorrow and I would rather work on my percussions

Positive side is my girlfriend..she is very suportive and she likes my music She tells me that it is no problem if I would like to do just music and put the mechanical engineering aside. That she will work 2 jobs if I would like to follow my music ambitions.
But that is the wrong way..

It is relatively easy when people have only one-sided career..

For me this moment of my life, this becoming a bit difficult.
I have a job that takes me 12 hours a day, and moreover I am away from my studio when I get home on weekends, I have to divide the time for my girlfriend, friends and music.

At most I can do one song a month.

But little by little we will doing a little of everything.           keeps the effect psychedelic
