agreed, this is _extremely_ disturbing.. me and my flat mate read it on sunday when it appeared in the magazine and have been talking about it ever since.. the really sad thing is that all the kids just appear to be brainwashed by the process...

Indeed Kaz.
I read it all, and I'm completely shocked.
If my parents would send me to such a place I'd kill them when I come back.
I think US should concentrate on bombing such places as Tranquility Bay and not Iraq or Afghanistan, because as you said Kaz, those places are the testament to the rotting of western society...
This is the best article I've read in a while, and surely the best link posted here ever. |

The point is you wouldn't kill them - these guys are right out of an Orwellian nightmare world - just like in 1984, they break the person and remold them in a way they see fit. And he thanks them for it. Renaming complaints as "manipulations" and discrediting them as lies, making everyone spy on everyone else and vice versa, forcing submission to authority, and so on. Individualism and working against the system is NOT allowed and punished. Being your own person? Only in a socially acceptable way. The existance of a place like this is admitting that western society and it's value of personal freedom (and personal responsibility) have failed. This is the dream school for people like Stalin. Calling it Tranquility Bay is more than just a lie. The Ministry of Love pops up to mind.
Once you betray that which you hold most dear - yourself - there's no turning back. All in the name of The Party... err, Big Brother... scratch that, society.

Yes, I agree.
Of course I wouldn't know what I would think if I had gone trough Tranquility Bay, but as I look at it now, I'd kill my parents if would send me to such a place. |
