Backup samples

Hello i have loads of gigabytes of samples. I'm scared the PC just goes "ballistic", is there anything i can do besides recording this onto DVDs? What about backups are they trustworthy? How do they work? This is in my second hard drive already, but lately the PC has been not detecting it ..... don't know why.
specs are Pentium 4 3.6 HT
1.2 G Ram
400 g sata hard drives (2)
Am i just panicking? |

I have never noticed that a RAR actually does minimize files...... They just minimise something like 2 to 5 Mb, you sure about WAV'S?? cause i always try other stuff
I know that Norton exists but my question is, what does it do? I have read the features in website, but don't really get it what does it do, new.
What you mean on the bios, i know how to get there but HDD I've lost you there
The bios recognises it but sometimes just don't.... and don't understand, that hard drive still has like 50 gigs free.Another weird thing is that everytime i do the update of the Windows the pc just breaks and have to restore back. I think i can only do only 2 updates and after that it stops, its original instalation.

Virus...... that's a more plausible possibility... this PC has 6months since bought still on warranty..... Im no techie just know a few things, upgrade rams, sound cards and some software, but that's it......
I'm not gonna open and play with the motherboard, this should be working fine....
So there's motherboards viruses???
