Interesting, I will check this out. I've stopped making trance for the past couple of months to focus on Psybreaks so this will be interesting. |

It's actually a recognizable sub genre of psytrance???
Like trance is a music that induces the state of trans. Out of that we have sub genre called psytrance that stimulates irrationality and disassociation during that trans state and then finally out of that we get psybreaks that don't induce nor support any trans state of mind but we still link that to psytrance because we use similar presets in effort to copy popular electro breaks?
Or I have missed the point completely (as usual)?
ps: Tomos please don't get me wrong!!! This has nothing to do with you nor with your desire to produce any kind of music you want. I don't mind any of that. This is just a remark about how we degenerate every sense of meaning from our language by naming things in fashion with trends or by factor of how cool it sounds.
I wish that more people really try to listen and understand people like Terence McKenna (instead of just using cool samples to reach the level of coolness). One of the most important things he said is that the world is not made of matter... it is made of words and we will evolve only as fast as our language evolves.
Excuse me for my regular dose of negativity inspired by this topic and other one about McKenna samples. It's like eating the shell of the nut and throwing away the inside of it.

Oh btw, I recognize some Spectrasonic loops in this download. Be careful when sharing files like that.

The term Psybreaks is a bit self contradictory.
You can't trance out to stop-start music, but I am trying to bring psy elements to a broken beat, which when you become familiar with the pulse, can become just as trance-like. Evolving changes on top of an offbeat kick-bass-snare.
People have begun attaching the psy prefix to anything with some of the sounds we all love to use here. Flter sweeps, long rushes squeaks, bleeps etc.
I think genre bending is a good thing, but if it goes far enough things need to be categorised again because I don't want to go to a 'psy' night and find it impossible to 'trance out' because some idiot dj is playing broken beats and has a perchant for flicking the crosfader.
Psychedelic sound isn't a rim shot, it takes time to develop, but it can work over many different beats |

Psybreaks isn't a bad name, because it can be breaks-style and still be psychedelic. However by definition, it isn't trance. Check out Cosmosis's website, where he elegantly explains the difference between trance and diatonic (normal) music. Monotony is needed somewhere (preferably the in kick/bass department) if a trance-like state is to be induced in the listener and the name breaks obviously implies uh... breaks |

Damn good track!!! But I would never call that breaks if you ask me. It has nice groove modulations and it changes rhytmics quite often but it flows quite nice all the way trough track. To my mind this is just psytrance made with innovative approach and with open mind. I wish we could have more music like that.
