well i didnt visit for long time now and i even missed this place a bit

i also checked out all mothers of mothers of grandpa threads andd did not found anything that will help me (used the search ,and went few pages back)

well my situation is like that,
i need to buy a new computer for my studio but, i dont know how the incoming new windows (vista) will affect the market and the programs...will prices get higher?, or when its released we should see a fall?
and how is everything going to deal with all this 64 bit shit
my main concerns are :
1.what CPU and mother board to buy
2.is noticed that there are pentium4, pentium D, pentiumCore2
what ae the differences and whats vest for music?(or should i choose AMD?)
3.600w supplier is must?aint it?(stability and silence?)
4.how can a man choose his tower case ("ma`araz")
5.is 1 gb ram is enough now and sometime from now expand or should just buy 2 gb and cut the crap

hope u can help my boys
tnx

I suggest that you don't fool around with stuff that will be "ok for now," and that you grab a core 2 duo with 2 gigs of RAM if you can afford it..
RAM is pretty cheap for desktops, so if you want get a gig to start if you don't have the money right away..depending on the amount of use you put it through, you should be ok for a while..
The vista thing has be questioning as well..I'm not sure whats going to happen with the software, but even the AMD in my laptop is "vista compatible", so a core 2 duo will be for sure.

i just bought a new DAW and have done all of the reacerching.
first of all i advice you to look in at the forum in http://www.act.co.il they have great info on the subject.
and for the best prices look at http://www.zap.co.il
the best cpu is intels core 2 duo, the E6600 is the best you can get for a reasonable price, i would go for 2G ddr2 667 of ram i heard that that for the new vista you need at least 1G of ram but dont know if it should bother you right now, any way all the info you is in the site i posted.

Intel's new CPUs are best for 95% of possibilities as they pack more processing power than current AMD offerings. The only exception is if you are going to build a monster dual CPU DAW and intend to replace the CPUs by quad cores later on. In that case, you might start reaching the bandwidth limitation on Intel systems and will have to deal with the fact that the Intel quad cores are just 2xdual cores on the same chip.

The AMD quad cores will be true quad cores and can make use of the AMD HyperTransport bandwidth to communicate between the CPUs, the memory and the chipsets to all your I/O (PCI, SATA, FireWaire, USB, SAS etc).

So you probably want a Core 2 Duo machine.

If you really want to build the mother of all DAWs, start with something like this as the basis: http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thundern6650w_spec.html

Some quick specs: Dual CPU (will take the AMD quad cores when they come out), 4x PCI-e, 2x PCI-X, 1x PCI, 10x USB 2.0, 2x Firewire, 6x SATA-II, 8x SAS, 1x EIDE (dual channel), 2x GigE, 2x 100Mbit, RAID 0 1 10 5 JBOD.

The Gigabyte DQ6 motherboard supports core 2 duo processors and is one of the only boards to be future-proofed and support upcoming intel quad processors.

I'm updrading my dual as soon as the quad arrive because it's transformed the way I work. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it just EATS vst's and effects for breakfast.

Actually the top end extreme quad core is out already, I'm waiting for the sub £1000 ones!

You know what has really annoyed me recently are the reviews of the quad core chips. Most reviews simply say 'what's the point, most people only do spreadsheets and browse the internet'. Well all I can say to that is you are a moron and shouldn't be reviewing new hardware for a living. It comes in waves, sometimes the software requires new hardware, sometimes hardware provides opportunities for better software. In this case, processors are exceeding their requirements, but in terms of music production, this is a godsend. Imagine the possibilites.

My second hand Intel E6700 in the second hand section soon then

and about the motherboard, "Tomos " says good words about the gigabyte but,few other guys told me to buy ony intel originally manufactured motherboard not only intel chipset?what r the differences in the means of work?
what do u have to say about that??

I've never used an intel motherboard, purely because I think other manufacturers are genuinely better.

The 'intel chipset' however, is licenced out to board manufacturers so all boards pretty much work the same, however some manufacturers appeal to different groups of people because of certain features.

As mentioned, The DQ6 supports upcoming quad cores, it is also EXCESSIVELY overclockable. On my core2 stock cooling I've overclocked it from 2.6ghz to 3.0ghz, if you bought a better fan you'd get it even further. It also has silent cooling on the northbridge chipset, and has quad-in built bios backup in case of some crazy failure or your chip decides to go nuts (as mine did when I pushed the overclocking way too far, the system reset the bios and I was on my way again)
