The biggest human gathering on earth, The Kumbh Mela, takes place every 12 years in Haridwar, India.
The most recent one held there in 2010 had a very significant meaning for us, because at that point Goa Gil had been officially granted the honorable title of ‘Antarashtriya Mandal ka Shri Mahant’ (also known as 'Shri Maharaj’) by the
Council of Elders or the 'Shri Panch' of the Juna Akara. The ceremony took place at the presence of numerous Shri Mahants, Mahatmas, Babas and guests.
This officially makes Goa Gil the world's one and only DJ with that title!
The new album is naturally named "Shri Maharaj", and is one of Goa Gil’s most important albums.
In Shri Maharaj, Goa Gil exposes himself like never before, sharing his most private and intimate spiritual life.
No doubt it's his most electrifying and groundbreaking album to date. Not only does the album break all boundaries of sound and concept known today, Goa Gil pushes the music to the limit, and is even more daring than ever.
We are absolutly sure that, like ‘Kali Yuga’, this album is going to be another milestone in psychedelic trance.
Goa Gil is one of the most influential DJs in the world today. For many years has been known as the standard bearer of the psychedelic Goa trance scene, and is also known for his sets that are a source of not only inspiration for others,

Interesting track list.. completely based on our religion and idealogies, including the cover art (where its splattered all over) , yet not one indian artist in it. And not just talking abt trance, like any sort of collaboration like even some downtempo for the or intro.... that's not so good!

Karmageddon is the best compilation/mix by Goa Gil that I have heard so far.
Kali Yuga was a bit of a disappointment. I hope the tracks on this one are better.

Awaiting samples. I wonder whats the BPM factor here ? Just curious.
And FI Maha-Kumbh doesn't happen in only haridwar. Allahabad also gets its share. The confluence of Sarasvati, Ganga and Yamuna is the purest point in Vedic sentiments and that's in allahabad.

Even if most of the tracks turn out to be more annoying than trance inducing; it's still a vital release since it contains a new track by The Nommos!

Sorry to say I'm not impressed by the samples.
(they are short though, so I can't know for sure)
Goa Gil's sensitivity of what's trance inducing used to be trustworthy before Kali Yuga... Shri Maharaj seems like a mere continuation of this brash and erratic sound. It's not even darkpsy anymore but psycore (if I'm not mistaken), right?
I hope that Goa Gil will arrive at something like this next time:
