automation question - grouping channels

Hey I got a fresh question I couldn't answer myself yet.

Could anyone tell me a good way to automate for example the volume of every part in a song except one.

Often you can hear every piece of a song fading in volume and just one element remains in the mix.

I presume every part in the song is routed to a group channel and the element that stays on full volume goes directly to the bus or to another group channel. The question that arrives is how to do this for different elements, for example if you want to leave an element untouched that you previously routed to that volume fading group.

As far as I know it's not possible to automate channel routings in cubase.

Any ideas? Is there a way to link channel faders? Can someone describe it properly?           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

hmm... try using one of the channels sends and send it to some channel... which will have the fader down the whole duration of the track... then when the track reaches the part that of that effect, put the original track volume down and the send up.
may not be the best solution but it's the one i can think of

edit: just remembered you can also bounce that part... more pratical i think

I think the simplest & easiest way would be to bounce everything but that part..Then do a fadeout on the bounced part..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

e-motion heh thanks now that I think of that's a pretty good idea.

isn't there a way to link faders. I seem to remember that you can.

gotta google for a bit. I'll update the thread when I know.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

You can link faders and write multiple channels of automation that way, which is fine unless you're already linking two channel faders elsewhere in the track, in which case you'll lose that original link when you unlink the other faders after writing the automation. Personally I'd fade each other track individually - but not necessarily using automation           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Most my intros/outros/breaks are done like s-cube said....I just export the parts i want to tweak as a whole , that way I can do anything I want with it without messing the original tracks, like hi/lo-pass filters effects, distortions, etc....

for example, exporting kick+bass and put a hi-pass filter, and export drums to other channels and do a low-pass...

Since I work with channels that are all grouped in the first place (drums, synths etc) - I can simply take one channel out of the group, and make a group channel for it alone.

You only need to automate one fader - otherwise it just seems like too much of a job.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

thx for all the answers. I gotta admit that I usually don't like to bounce stuff as I always end up with the wish to edit something.

colin what do you mean with *quote* but not necessarily using automation *quote*
