Ok, i understand both continuous controllers and sysex, switching them in virus's menu (low page hi page etc) and i understand what they are doing but for some reason i am unable to get any feedback what so ever using both methods. I press record in cubase, tweak, in this case cutoff, but no information is displayed, i have managed to get a block up in cubase's list editor indicating a sysex message but my automation is not being replayed. Is it possible to get an in depth procedure how i set both sysex and preffereably cc's in cubase? Is it possible i have to set up a new controller lane dedicated to a specific controller? Do i somehow have to activate the dump procedure?

cheers.

hi orbit!

- recording to find out the controller number is a good way, you're on the right way!
- don't forget to check the midi filtering settings
- check if your virus is connected the correct way
- check if you have selected 'all midi inputs' or the specific midi input to record controller data from your virus

good luck!

howdy again, thanks for the replies. Ive worked sysex side of things but something is up with cubase when im trying to select controllers 40 to 50 really they are non existant in that menu in setup in cubasse controller lane, actually there seem to be a few controllwers missing. any way of getting cubase to recognise these missing controllers?

if there are really controls missing(that i doubt ;p) the solution could be to get a midi messages converter vst that you'd use as an insert to filter the cc40 to, lets say 41(?)
though i'd find it too curious, that such a piece as the virus, doesn't allow the user to change midi ccs for the parameters

hmm i hope i dont have to resort to that, anyone know how to get this recognised? Also i have found that i am unable to record sysex messages when either my virus or waldorf xt are connected to each other with midi thru, but i am able to record both singularly. heres how i got it connected anyway. i have a midiman 2x2 with midi controller going straight to in-a whcih feeds to pc via usb. now out-a going into mdi in on one of the synths, then midi thru connected to midi in of next synth, then that is is connected with its midi out going into midiman in-b. is this correct chain?

i really don't think i may be much of help, but that you'd get there with patience, but i'll try... your latest post made me feel my braincells slapping eachothers, saying <worms mode>"wake up, stupid!"

about sysex, i only know of dumpings and 'undumps'(?), don't know much else about it
the chain you're presenting, makes sense, i may be missing something...
recap
midi controller
to
1st synth
through, to
2nd synth
to computer, ?
1 midi controller, for 2 different pieces at different times, than 1 channel for each(this would be seted on the synths, and assuming your midi controller as the option to switch the channel to wich will be sending the data), or you'd be controlling both machines at the same time, right?
if both on, let's say ch1(1st synth) and ch2(2nd synth), your host should be seted to receive on portB, than, data from channel 1 and 2 to tracks

instead connecting the midi controller to the midi interface, connect it directly to the 1st synth, than thru to 2nd synth than to computer... just to check if its something with the interface!

i have a similar modest set up,
synth(that is used as midi controller) to interface to computer, from computer to 2nd synth back to the interface, again, into the computer

if i go straight from the midi controller to virus's midi in, it just plays the virus with no midi messages being sent to cubase only audio, i cant send further info to waldorf either, its receiving but cant hear or receive anything in cubase. your method works, but one problem if i connect the mdi controller straight to virus in no matter what channel i selct for the waldorf the virus is always playing? its like i need 3 inputs on interface for each instrument to eceive midi out messages. any ideas anyone? thanks for the help so far hehhe.

my last try

isn't the virus configured as omni receiver, if it as that option?
isn't there an option to turn on and off midi thru?

yeah i think im going to have to get a third midi input, i dont think the virus has any option for midi-thru. as soon as i connect midi controller to the virus it loses all midi out sending functions, just audio.

Hi orbit,

Check out Global -> Midi Panel Destination:

INTERNAL: control operations are sent only to the Virus sound components and not to the MIDI Out.

INT+MIDI: sent both to the Virus and MIDI Out.

MIDI: exlusively to the MIDI Out.

Hope this help,

Alex
