How do you guys usually do snare and drum rolls? Ive messed around BEAT REPEAT from abletons native effects and it seemed to be really handy while also being a little hard to handle.
Ive have always made them manually but if there's such a technique it would save a lot of time and table finger drumming

midi with ramp velocity, its my way to do em
or with an arpergiattor, i love the mc505 for that kinda stuff its ace at it watch everyone jump on em now haha but seriously the snare rolls of the arpegiator of my mc 505 come out really nice plus u can repitch and at full mode u can all of sudden somehow give it like a breakin out effect which sounds beyond sick thats the only reason i still have my mc505 its a old pup for cheap now days but it sure has some nice features that many overlook its really good at certain things, chk it out ROLAND MC505 dont believe those who say it sux because it doesnt u gotta get under the hood on this one. |

I guess tonight im gonna go and give InstaJungle a try since I don't have psyaudionamic's roland mc505
Also I think I might give beat repeat a try as well. Just need to tame it to my taste. Gonna try to download some sort of tutorial or anything.

haha LOL! that made me laught...
do u have any hardware synth that can send out CC's from its arpegiattor? i can do the same with my nord that i do with the mc 505
but the reason i mentioned the mc505 is cus i feal the mc505 gives me overall better control of the arpegiator with the nord its easier to fuck up the mc505 does the trick very smooth and easy u just cant fuck up
they are really cheap now days and if one day god forbid ur computer craps out you'll have a external sequencer in which u can accomplish alot, it also got a nice slicer efx... cheers and luck with beat repeat in live i've messed with it here n there but for efx not snares, have u tryed just using midi, draw it and then play with the velocties sure it takes more time but you'll also have 100% control of the rolls... |

Ableton rolls=super easy
Just select the note duration, go into draw mode, click and drag.
If you're looking for something more complex, envelopes are the way to go...you can also get some crazy rolls going with several samples on one track with a 16th note legato.

Could some explain how it is done using envelopes ? This is still a bit obscure for me. |

^ There are different ways you could do it. If you load beat repeat or dblue glitch or something into a track, double click the clip you want to edit and click the "e" (env.) button on the bottom left, you can automate any parameters of the clip or fx on the track. Select the device and control you want to automate under the Envelope section and go into draw mode.

The thing is that while using battery I can not tweak parameters on the individual parts of the drums like applying overdrive on cymbals and not on the kickdrums. Eq the kick and not the snares... things like that... Am I wrong?

in this case, use battery but with its external outputs.
On bottom of the "master" column of your desired cell, you can choose wich virtual output you want.
Then simply create an audio track in your sequencer, with this cgannel as an input and apply whatever effect you like |

In Live you can open a new audio track, click to IO button and select an input source, then just drop the processors you want in that track.
