Hi guys, i live in Innsbruck,Austria,Europe.
I went to my first real Psy-Party on 31.12.2008 in the Olympic-Halle (they said its the best Psy-Party of the year here).
The music was always about 160-170bpm the whole night long, and i heard from people that the producers here only like this dark, fast stuff.
but, i listen to popular things like Eskimo, Astrix, Vibe Tribe, GMS... and those are all about 145bpm.
its such a huge step from 145bpm to 160bpm, i cant take...
i mean, its like you listening to metal, and then going to a death-metal party.
is this a trend on the whole world, or just here, that psytrance is going to be dark and fast?
ppl will hate me here, if i just change my bassnote harmonical once and put 3 different synth notes together in a track (>**)>
cheers

hi dude,
well dark psy or whatever you want to call it has become quite popular everywhere on this planet.. (i´m german btw) most of the time at bigger events they will play dark on on floor and "regular full on" or progressive on another floor.. so you can choose...
actually dark psy is not my cup of tee. i cannot listen to it at all, it´s a too big step from "normal psy" to dark for me too, as you said it is for you..
i would not even call this trance anymore, has more the hardcore character i know from the early 90s blended with trancey kicks and noises.. anyway let´s not get into a pro/con dark psy discussion. a lot of people like it, so it has its right to be played!
nevertheless is does affect the party planning for somebody like me who could go to basically any psy party before lets say 2004 or 2005...
now i do really check the line up of a party and if they play only dark psy i won´t go because it makes me agressive, i cannot stand it...
you see you are not the only one who thinks like that, just carefully check out the suitable events for you and you won´t be dissappointed.. |

hi there
so, i'm living right next to you in germany, there also was a trend to do dark parties, some years ago they played it at every bigger party...
but if you search for parties with other style of psytrance you will find for sure...just check goabase. i don't think it should be a problem in austria.
and don't care about what people think of the music you make. it's your music...if you don't like dark and higher bpm's, just don't make it |

we have a loudness war and now artists are starting bpm war
some people think they need to cranck up the volume to get the people excited and some people think they need a synth line that sounds like a AK47 to get the people moving
there are shure some great tracks with high bpm count but as for me I am not a duracell bunny to dance all night long like a im having an epileptic attack
but thats just me

if you go to a nathan party from parvati records and expect psy trance its your own fault men...I'm from Austria too, and if you want psy you have better chances in vienna than in innsbruck for sure |

Hey it's everywhere, just try to speak to people and find out good parties with quality music/djs
Monitoring devices, know where you go
Mass media, total control
Digital delight, desire in megabite
Data overflow, virtual suicide
This information, is disinformation

What are some popular dark psy artists? I've always wanted to listen to something to see what it's like. |

What is 'dark' psy anyway? Stop calling it that...this has been discussed to death in other threads.
If we're talking about the emotional output of a track, chillout can be dark, progressive can be dark etc...
I do listen to the music that I suspect many of you would pigeonhole as 'dark' but that is usually in the range 145-155 bpm.
170? Who is that? Are you sure you didn't attend a gabba party? |

Can you give some example on these 160-170bpm "darkpsy" tracks?
i think 150-155bpm can be nice. And if there is some psychedelic DnB than it can be nice with 160-170bpm.
you can make very cool fast tracks that dont feel stressed...
Anyway the problem here is that you went to the wrong party according to your musical taste..
cheers
