I've heard rumors about new people being treated rather suspiciously there (from other Israelis that visited the place for various amounts of time) - that the feeling is of a great place but a closed club. Can anyone here elaborate about this?

I've been there once,
It's probably true that it isn't that easy to just come and live there,
they are very closed and outshine a sektarian imago, although it isn't.
If you know people who already live there, then you are most likely to get taken up in the community.
Everybody in Auroville has there own skills, so if you want to live there, you have to have one too From bakers to teachers to printing press and ecologic engineering and architects...
Tourists are attracted a lot and there is big dividing between tourists and inhabitants.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I've only been there for about 10 days.
