Hello everybody. i am a musician whos is looking for a mobile solution to the audio interface for my laptop. for what ive heard firewire is always better than usb 2.0, so the audiophile firewire by m-audio seems like a really good deal. On the other hand , ive heard that maudio cards arent as professional as other brands. Then there is the emi 2/6 which i ve heard its a great souncard, the only setback its that it is usb. i am planning to use the interface both for making music and performing live, using cubase sx2, ableton live and reason. Has anybody soome experience with the audiophile firewire with this kind of tasks, can u give me some feedback please? is the emi a better souncard (it is more expensive though)?
any opinions very welcome. thanx a bunch.

EMI is a great soundcard for performances or mobile solutions. I'm not sure how it performs in a studio in the long tun.
I allways think it's better to stick with firewire than usb when it comes to audio cards. But audiophile will serve live performance well also.

it's the studio recording phase that you need to be worried about.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I haven't used the firewire but I have used the EMI for quite a while back when I composed on a laptop. If I had the option to go with firewire, I probably would have, but I can't complain about the EMI at all- it worked great and never did me wrong.

Also... who on earth told you that M-Audio cards "aren't as professional as other brands?" I'm using a Delta 1010 these days, and trust me, it's the real deal. I mean, I don't know if, say, their studio monitors are the most professional out there, but when it comes to sound cards, they seriously know what they're doing

I notice the Firewire Audiophile has four inputs, and unless I'm confusing it with the 6|2 (which is reversed) the EMI 2|6 has 6 outputs but only 2 inputs. Trust me, inputs are your friend. If you don't have a use for the extra 2 inputs now, I bet you will while you're still using whichever card you choose.

Actually that's the main reason I switched from the EMI to the Delta 1010: not enough inputs; I had 4 outputs on my synth and 2 inputs on the card, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hi there mate...
Have a look at the RME hammerfall , great quality and it works by pcmcia.

Also , if you don´t really need lot´s of inputs , try the echo indigo series , there are 3 different ones i think , beeing the main diferences the number of outputs , but this ones doesn´t have midi (and work on pcmcia) - really small and with a great quality - if your keybord is usb , it´s a very good choice .
