Any1 know how 2 do this? Any vst's?

i.e. using an audiotrack in Cubase 2 modulate a carrier audio track?
Do I have 2 build a vst 2 do this?

Bye

uh oh. frequency modulate or infact any other modulation using another track as modulator.

I think in some of the Linplug VSTis are able to use waveforms as oscillators, and are able to cross-modulate. I don't know for sure though as I don't use them.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Yes, but can it FM one oscillator with the other?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

i know about nice and free FM Sampler that use the wav waveform to carry the other wav on it's waveform:

audio inputs on synth for modulation purposes only? i can't think of any but sounds a good idea

FM7 can do this too, used as FX.

Thanks Fingax

On quick examination it looks like absynthe can directly replace oscilators wif bus inputs or waves, b4 filter or mod stage. I havent used Absynthe yet or read manual so this will b gr8 reason 2 finally give it sum of my short after hours time.
Thanks again.
P.S. I checked Z3ta out. seems it cant modulate wif an input but it can use an input envelope follower for controlling a matrix slot. so not really useful. But thanks 4 suggest.

nope it cant.absynthe either does routing or modulation,& not even between oscillators but rather only an oscillator with its own private modulator.Damn
there goes that idea.

Do you mean by audio track a prerendered/made audio track (one big wav) or real-time generated track using vst (Cubase audio channel)?

If you want to use realtime track, you will need some delay in the signal path, otherwise you won't be able to modulate the signal other than with amplitude/ring? modulation. For example real-time chorus effect which can be considered as some kind of FM essentially has a delay varying between min...max where min is equal or greater than zero (varying delay means varying playback rate which means varying the frequency ). You can't fetch samples from the future. With primitive oscillators you don't have this problem as it is known in before hand how the waveform will look. Hence FM without a delay is possible with simple oscillators.

But you probably meant prerendered wav. In this case I'd recommend you have a look at some modular synth such as Reaktor (my favourite by far). It has a in-built sampler module which can be used in very flexible ways. And check out the granular synthesis too, it rocks (Absynth can do granular synthesis, too).

You can let the input of an audio track modulate just about everything if you build a plug that will translate the peaks of the audio track to modulation commands using an envelope follower and then on to whatever you like... filter fm, osc freq, PWM rate ... you name it

Thanks doods. Seems that theres more 2 frequency modulation then I remembered from communications. Will have 2 hit my old books again.
Also Am reading reaktor manual. page 230 here I go.

Thanku every1 for suggests, will check all out as time permits.I h8 having a dayjob which keeps me from music. grrrrr!
