Hello,

I've been using Fruity Loops for like 4 years now. I'm comfortable with the program, but I still haven't figured out what half the dials and knobs do. Alot of people have told me that to make good trance, I need to use another program (some say Logic, and some swear by Cubase). I installed Reason and Logic Audio Platinum on my computer, but I don't know how to begin in either of these programs. I'm completely lost. Is there a program that's structured similar to Fruity Loops? And as easy to use??

Well, first of all....

You don't NEED to use another program to make good trance. The Nommos make incredibly good music and they use FL Studio. It really depends on how well you can use a program to make good music with it. If you were looking for something a little more structured like FL Studio, then maybe something like Orion Platinum might work for you.

Logic has a high learning curve, but once you figure it out, you might like what you can do with it. I personally use Logic, and I really like it. I have used FL Studio and Orion, but I didn't really know how to use it as well as other programs.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Yes mubali you are absolutly right. FL is one of the
best music progs i know, for me the best.
I am using it now for 4 ot 5 years since v.1.8 or something like that.
It is very good to build very complex structured songs.
I never used it with hardware synth or made other than dance music with it, so i don't know if it is good for recording hardware synth.

But i know for me is it at the moment the best way to create the sound i want to create.

If you use it now for 4 years you should learn more about the knobs, to use it in the right way.

And don't listen to people that say it is less pro, they don't really know the power of fruity.            Signature

Just don't mix on fruity.
Me and Limbic dude were working on a track. We composed some parts on fruity, and exported them to wav.
Once we got them in Cubase the entire thing sounded much better, without even changing anything.
Just import and play.

"It is very good to build very complex structured songs. "

for me, song structure is the reason i *dont* like step sequencers.,

bigger sequencer packages have a lot of structure related functions., this is very confusing at first and the manual is your best friend.,
but after a while you cant live without them (at least, i can't) ., they make it possible to work on the structure very fast because of the way the song is presented on screen,.,

pattern based sequencers are good if you work with repeating patterns a lot., but some structural things take more time to do .,

another thing, you can use (for instance) logic as a step sequencer.,
but you cant use a step sequencer like logic,.

i think you should stick with fruity for now and find out what everything does., you dont need something else to make good music.,

use it untill you feel that you cant do the things that you want anymore and then switch to a bigger sequencer,.

i started out on logic and had to deal with a very high learning curve., it was a real creativity killer,. it took me very long to start making music instead of thinking about how to controll it..,

so dont bother untill you need it.,

that's my experience anyway.,

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Now I know that it's not the program that matters as much as knowing how to use it (DUH!!! Obviously!!)...

Next question:

Is there a really good tutorial that I can download or read on the Internet on how to use the Synths & Generators in FL Studio...? Something that also touches on hard, night trance-like tunes?? I've been trying to catch someone that knows FL in & out, to get them to show me how to do more shit on it for the past few months without any success! Then again, I'm stuck in America where the music scene is dominated by huge black guys rolling around in Bentley's and smoking blunts!! Trance is not at all popular here (with a few exceptions on the East & West coasts). Until I catch someone, I guess a tutorial is the only way for me to progress!

I don't think there is anything you can't do with fruity

I also used Fruity for long
I strated with Cubase 2.0 and after i changed to Fruity ...Now i work in Cuzbase SX ...but still make some stuff in fruity ... and i like the simple effects from fruity like delay ...
It's true the quality from Fruity sounds a bit different to cubase ...
but for me the reason to change was ... because of editing Samples and Loops ... sure u get a slicer in Fruity but it's not exactly the same like to work with Samples in SX ...
u can't make direct FX in Fruity ... i mean edit just one Part of a sample (FX) with ou an automation ... ...
May u can make it but it's realy different / more complicated in Fruity ...

Allrighty.... the Fruity wasp can really make some excellent leads... I also would suggest taking some of your drum parts and warping them beyond recogintion... and here's the address to my website.
Listen to my most recent creation and tell me what you think...

i'm using fruity and i did try other progs. but i felt very comftreble working on fls.
it takes me alot of time to optimize my work on this software ( clean sound etc. ) but i know that , still, unfortunatly there no way to compare between the sound quality in cubase/logic/reason and fruity they are way ahead...
(FLStudio devolpers have to do something about it)

but mike said a smart thing , i do it to.
write your music in fruity (i found i can write very
complex stuff very easly) and export them into wav.
the recording and techinchal tweaks leave for cubase or logic.

hope you'll find the way.
