Hello

Ok, so I want to build/buy a really good Audio PC, got some budget to spend and Im looking for the best solution, any advice is welcome and appreciatted.

I´ve been looking into Carillon Audio Systems, wich seem quite amazing, or is it way too expensive for what it offers? Any one got one?

And what about other brands for DAWs? Any to reccomend?

Or you think the best is just to build myself? (would it get much cheaper? and reliable?)

Any comments/recomendaions/personal experiences will be very appreciatted

building your own is much cheaper but not reliable if you don't know exactly what to buy and where to put it ;D

you can spend the same money buying better performing custom pc than a brand build dawn for sure,

in my opinion, build your own & experiment! maybe the first one isn't so cool but it's a good training

Hi there,

no suprise, all depends on your budget. Imho, you always get a decent configuration cheaper when you build it for urself. Just had a look on Carillion site and my initial impression on the offered models was:

- not much RAM inside (unless you buy AC1D Ultra with 2GB)
- Dual Core Intels are considered old procs nowadays (performance roughly the same like plain AMD Athlon 64s which are way cheaper, not talking about the consumption and cooling power)
- not much HD space in the average models (2-300 GB which is nothing)
- can't see a word about the power supply (very important to have a high performance, reliable one like Chieftecs)

That means you may eventually end up buying more RAM, more HDDs, all lying on an old processor architecture.

Building ur own PC is cheaper and you can focus on the most important assets of the issue. You need a fast proc (Core2Duo or equivalent AMD), a reliable motherboard (not Asrock... ), plenty of RAM (1-2 GB), and a half terabytes of HD to have your samples handy. You can also choose a decent videocard to have a nice and fast dual monitor setup.

I don't know the prices in your country, but here in Hungary, you can build a PC like the Carillons at one-third price, obviously without the fancy house. Or a much better one at the same price. It is worth to sneak around the hardware shops and visit some power hardware forums on the net.

Just my 2c, needless to say.

I would say that you'd be much better buying a "base" computer with a nice processor and mobo and upgrading as you go than building your own..

The idea of a "DAW computer" is a little ridiculous, just need anything with a nice processor, good memory, and if you don't want an external hard drive (recommended for firewire), lots of internal disk space.
