Hello

After a serious accident I had I'm planing to setup 2 SATA 200gb HDs as RAID level 1 to minimize data loss.

Has anyone ever done this for an audio pc? Any experiences? Will the performace loss be noticable? I have an amd64 3000+ with 1gb ram.

thanks

Depending on the raid controller the performance penalty will be from none to small. I personally recommend the adaptec ones. If you have integrated one, it might be ok too.

On your setup the performance won't be an issue, your machine is fast enough.

If you use a lot of sample libraries/sample vst's and stream them from hard disk, it's wise to place them to single fast disk or another raid 0 even. No need to burden the secure raid 1 for something you can always install again if deleted/corrupted.
