working on audio is much more professional

Just a tought on this:
Should one really worry about bouncing Midi to Audio in the Recording Stage?

Why don't we do it later in the Mixing stage?
(isn't it for things like this that the mix is for)

i bounce pretty much everything.
feel much more stable and gets a better mix, also saving some cpu. easyer to work with audio also imo.

Ok, so boucing midi to audio as you go making the track has more advantages, like more simple coz only have a correspondent audio track rather than loads of audio and midi, you can think more in terms of sound, and more stable for the computer, saving cpu.

thanks alot!

personnal opinion:

In my case i should not have a problem with saving resources (have plenty), i use Instrument Tracks in cubase, they are a combination of midi, device and audio making things more faster, and i prefer leave the "bounce midi to audio" for the mixing satge, this way can concentrate more in just the creativity!

Does it make sense?

Luis, bouncing has some other advantages: There is all the processing you can do when bounced. That is certainly part of the creative side of things rather than mixing.

More importantly, bouncing stuff forces you to make decisions and get things right. You can't procrastinate and tell yourself that you will fix a sound later when mixing. You have to fix it now and make sure it works within the track. It makes you think of how things will work together and do a little bit of planning.

When I started bouncing stuff (and not keeping it all MIDI as long as possible) I became more productive.

Of course, different strokes for different folks. This might not work for you...

Yeah, defenetly the "will fix in the mix" is not the best way, i never stick to it anyway..

But, yeah i get what ur saing, but diferent strokes for diferent folks as u say.

It's cool to share all of these opinions and i am only a begginer anyway, i am just trying to find my way...lolol

I would like to take this thread as an opportunity to say something that's bugging me:

I have a little keyboard that i use to control parameters in cubase (Midi Out in the device to Midi In in my sound card), and i have a bigger one to just play (don't know how to connect)

(i have Midi In and Out in my sound card)

My question:
How do i connect my second keyborad (bigger one) in order to have my two keyboards operational ?

Maybe it's simple but i have read the manuals for cubase, sound card and keyboard and just cant' connect the fucker.lol

Can someone give me a hand here please ??

Does either of your keyboards have a MIDI THRU port? If so, you can plug one keyboard into the MIDI THRU port of the other and then plug that one into your PC.

MIDI has 16 channels. So you can easily daisy chain 16 devices like this. (With 16 devices you might start getting latency issues depending on the devices but with just 2 you should be fine).

Yeah, fuckin' Midi Thru, i have read about that but i only got two outs in one keyboard and one in one out on the other>>>

The keyboard i use to controll parameters is an M-Audio Ozone with built in sound card that i dont use, so i have it connected to the PC via the Midi Out that says keyboard (for stand alone operation), and it has another Midi Out that says USB.
So the M-Audio is the first Keyboard, for recording!

The second one is a yamaha that has Midi In and Out.

It should work like this:

M-Audio>Midi Out (keyboard) >to Midi In FireFace.
M-Audio>Midi Out (USB) >to Midi In Yamaha.

But doesn't!!!
(maybe something in cubase, anyway midi thru in cubase is on!)

I'll do some more research on Midi stuff, Midi channels etc...

I'll get this right...

thank you for your attention UnderTow!           "As The Mind so the Man"

Bounce to Audio all the time, I then use that audio to come up with all kinds of new parts, including intros to themselves and effects or percussive rhythms.

I used to stay in MIDI all the time, but I realized that my mixes were very static and non-psychedelic as there is only so much you can do with a synthesizer.

Effect and transition sounds come a lot easier from audio, and since the sounds come from audio that's already in the track, it fits the theme of the sound you already have.

If it's a Lead or something I might want to change later I save the patch or track preset (cubase 4) with all of the inserts as well so I can load it back up if I want or need to add something new.

A lot of professional artists I have talked to said their sound didn't get really good until they started working with audio a lot.           ~Airyck~

Your Ozone should be able to play "MIDI" notes through the USB port you connect for the audio.

Switch your Ozone to play through the USB port(download the drivers), then hook your other midi out (from the Yamaha) into the MIDI system you are using now for your Ozone. Then you can use both to play into the computer on different interfaces.

Yeah man, i probably need the drivers!!!

I did no install them because i am not using the sound card in the m-audio ozone, so i tought i didn't need them, maybe that's why i cannot have the two keyboards running isn't it????????

thank you!!!

Ok, so Audio is the way to go, fuck Midi!lol
I am not clear about it yet but i am gonna have to study that subject carefuly because bouncing Midi to audio is not the same as exporting Midi to Audio isn't it!(?)

Thanks man!!!!!!!!!!!!! Peace
