I'd like to use my laptop as a desktop replacement (at least for a while) since my new laptop is much faster. The only way to connect all of my peripherals simultaneously is with USB and firewire hubs. I know this isn't the best way to connect things, but how much of a difference does it make having interfaces and controllers connected through a hub? If this is possible without affecting latency or sound quality, how fast should the hub's transfer rate be?
Sorry if it's been posted before..did my best to search.
Thanks in advance

I know there might be issues with some devices connected to hubs, like m-audio, so be careful other than that i have them plugged in straight in to the laptop
Monitoring devices, know where you go
Mass media, total control
Digital delight, desire in megabite
Data overflow, virtual suicide
This information, is disinformation

There are indeed few devices that requires a whole usb socket for themselves and do not like it at all if you share the socket with other devices (Virus Ti for example). On the other hand there are some firewire devices with 2 sockets on them so you can daisy-chain them (like MOTU 828MkII, I daisy-chained an exernal hard drive with it and it was super cool).
Better read your manuals carefully and see if any of your devices have a problem with sharing sockets. |

yes , be sure to connect your audio card directly on the laptop and from there on put everything else on the hub, since there will be some more latency, maybe not noticeable, but better have a midi device on that than your audio interface ,, as for transfer rates and such for hubs i have no idea,, check the specs of the specific you want..
