Question: since a while i experience audio-dropouts in Cubase Sx 3, while i use a high latency, my processor stays below 35% and i don't have many other processes running. I do use a Powercore and a UAD-1 card, but they're not maxed out either.

What could be happening ?

It could be a lot of things, you kind of need to get a checklist together.

Make sure your MyComputer/Advanced/Performance/Advanced Processor Settings is set to "Background". ASIO is treaded by windows as a "background" service, as dumb as that is.

Unplug any and all USB devices that aren't directly being used by your music program. Including external USB drives.

On my laptop, I would get weird dropouts even at low latencies all the time until I not only disconnected but completely DISABLED my wireless network device from the network connections control panel.

Of course any and all non essential programs running in the background should be shut off and your HD should be totally defragged etc. If you don't already use CCleaner to do general system cleanup, get it (its free) because as a bonus it can also easily be used to shut off a lot of "startup" items that are crap like Quicktime monitor and Adobe background stuff.

Sounds like you could have some background processes running, eg. auto-updates, or anti-virus or something like that. Watch the process list in the Task Manager whilst playing back a track and see if any of the processes start using more CPU at the same time as you get a dropout.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Thanks for the input It turned out to be related to a buggy limiter plugin i was using. Phew... Turn on tune in okay, but drop outs freak me out
