Audio alone? Huh?

Greetings,

I've read the last Interviews on Isratrance with Psysex, Cosma and Psycraft, and they all mentioned that working with audio and not with MIDI is much better (Psysex's new album was made in audio only, according to them), and that equipment isn't necessary in order to create good music (quality-wise).

Am i missing something here? Don't trance musicians need Synthsizers any more ????

Please explain
Tom

Umm... What Psycraft told me in the interview is that they start with MIDI, to make the melodies and stuff but then record it to audio and manipulate everything with audio only.

Also, the Pulsar (is that correct, im not sure) sound card should be so music creation wise, that It has everything u need. No need for samplers, synths or mixers. It has everything!!!

This is what I have been told.

The Pulsar is nice. but you shouldnt limit yourself strictly to Pulsar. there are great sound cards and softwares out there that combine and interact with each other so well (Reason and Cubase at my place work perfectly!).

he'll mix CDJ's. or he wont perform live, but rather get a partner who'll do that 4 him ;-)

In my opinion...working with audio is much more
proffesional then MIDI job!

I am doing all my recording/editing only in audio!
It's the best and the cleanest way of creation:)

I have to disagree here project. some things cannot be attained using stirctly audio. take a guitar sound. you'll never get the exact sound. you'll have to use an external device, if not a guitar. besides, the human touch on a keyboard or guitar is what makes the music more alive. using Audio alone makes it cold and ostracized if you ask me.

I agree with Jason.
But you can't say "that is better than this!"
Ther are so many artists that work with midi and audio as well and everyone will tell you that his way making music is better and cooler...

for Mr. Man
if u want to play live, u anyway won't play everything live.usually people play rythm [d&b] parts from playback, and improvise with lead or SFX.now, when you play with a synth live, you don't even need midi sync - you just jam.
so u use only audio features of the synth [patch, fx etc.]
and the rest is played back.
option 1:
you can play back with another synth/s [you'll have to drag them with you all the time]
and run the midi playback.
option 2:
you can use a good harddisk multitrack recorder or DAT, so u only need to drag the computer [which will be there anyway]
u also can improvise on the arrangement of the playback - Simon Posford does this for example[so he says].
so ... how's that ?
:-)

I think that it's best to start everything with MIDI, this way you have much more control on your track. After you finish the track you start converting the MIDI to audio and there you got a nice track :-)
